The whole stolen election narrative was always so weird to me. I can't believe anyone actually thought the voting machines got the count wrong.

If you cracked open the machines, the votes were always going to be there. That's such a strange thing to even contest. Whether or not the count was accurate is the hardest thing to prove.

Eh... Bush/Gore had some of that kind of thing. And the recounts and such are legal challenges. Every presidential candidate has the power to call for a recount and audit.

I'm not sure if you and I spoke about this, but I was telling someone on here that the reason Trump's election challenges became so contentious was because the audits were being stalled and contested. Rather than allowing the audits to happen and (as everyone should have expected) seeing that the counts were accurate; people fought tooth and nail, which made every pro-Trump person suspicious.

He didn’t audit electjoneers and shit. He just recounted a very close election and then stepped aside when a right wing SCOTUS court decided not to count a percent of votes for some nascent reason. Gore doesn’t get enough credit for NOT tearing the country apart.

Recounts and audits cost a lot of money, and they only change the result by a few hundred or a fraction of a percent of the votes. Trump was trying to overturn losses of 10,000 votes.

@goaded @OddBeMe You're right, but it's still a candidate's legal right to ask for those recounts. And in the Georgia case, Trump seemed to have already found (or at least had a strong suspicion he had found) the errors he was calling about.

Even if the alleged discrepancies turned out to be nothing, he was still his legal right to ask for impartial audit.

No, he didn't. He'd been told, in no uncertain terms, by Republican Raffesnperger that he'd lost by over 11,000 vores. Georgia DID two recounts, and found Biden won every time. Arizona did an audit and found 900 MORE votes for Biden.

Pennsylvania Republicans are pushing for mail-in voting. Florida Republicans loved it until 2020. The arguments against it are obviously in bad faith, especially during a pandemic.

@Sevenpointfive There are layers upon layers of checks to make sure the elections are fair, including people from both major parties and independents, and they're not all politicians, most of them are simply citizens.

That said, DeSantis just appointed Glen Gilzean as Orange County elections supervisor.

Good ol' Glen used to be chair of the state’s ethics commission, until he got chucked off for breaking the state ethics law. (State law says: “No member may hold any public employment.”, but he took a $400,000-a-year job running the governor’s new anti-Disney government district and refused to resign.)
