Ordinarily I would go into a prolonged response, and what follows I say as no fan of Mr. Trump. However, are you too young to recall the Barak Obama era?

Every word was taken as profound. He would transcend the age and bring racial harmony. Indeed, Mr. Obama was the harbinger of the post-racial world that was to come.

The irony in all this being that Mr. Obama's contempt for the lower middle class - "clinging to guns and religion" and the like - was what led to the rise of Donald Trump. Mr. Trump's populist appeal being rooted in his seeming plain spoken talk and his contempt for those who the lower middle class believed held them in contempt. (For other examples, see "deplorables" and threatening to throw miners out of work.)

As the economy transitions from a manufacturing/extractions base to a service/high tech base, the working class has been under enormous pressure. Rising divorce and suicide rates, rising drug addiction rates, declining lifespans and other such pathologies.

Pathologies that were once thought to be the problems of the lower class. The working class having thought themselves patriotic, church going and upwardly mobile. Now, to them, it appears that the slats were kicked out.

This is not unknown in American history. The same problems arose as the US - and the West generally - transitioned from a mercantile/agricultural economy to a manufacturing/extractions economy in the late 19th century. (It also helped to spark a bloody civil war in which more Americans died at each other's hands than died in both world wars combined.)

Suffice to say, since the New Deal, the blue collar working class saw the Democrats as their party. This began to change in the 1980s - see also the Reagan Democrats, who were working class that made it into the middle class. Hence the famous phrase, "The Democrats made me middle class. The Republicans will keep me middle class."

However, the Democrats sought out the upper middle college educated young to replace the working class that, demographically, are in decline. This working class still considers the old GOP establishment hostile. The working class feels looked down upon and ignored.

Into this stepped Donald Trump. He gave, partly unconsciously perhaps, voice to that deep sense of resentment. (Trump, by the way, had been a Democrat. Only becoming officially a Republican three years before he was elected.) His harsh language about "the Swamp" and all the rest resonated with the working class and thus he became an iconic - please note, not "cult" - figure.

Suffice to add that when he unexpectedly won the presidency, his stature among his base soared. He did what they had thought not possible and thus Mr. Trump became a star.

By the way, this is not unknown in American history. See also President Andrew Jackson - famously called King Andrew. See also William Jennings Bryan. See also Huey Long - speaking of cult figures. See also, in a different way, H. Ross Perot. The difference again being that, with the exception of Andrew Jackson, Trump accomplished with those other historical figures had not.

Throw in the magnifying and echo chamber effects of technology and social media and Trump has gained an ardent following. His weakness being that he was a Johnny One Note. He was, unlike figures like Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, content to pour salt in the social wounds and thus failed to build an enduring coalition.

Unfortunately, in one sense Mr. Trump's allies were correct. Mr. Trump's opponents were too busy looking down their noses at Trump and his "cult" to analyze the underlying fundamental reasons the the "cult" exists. Thus, in their way, Mr. Trump's opponents reap what they sewed.

That all said, as the example of Mr. Obama - still worshiped in his party - amply demonstrates, "let he who has not sinned cast the first stone." In truth, both were mediocre figures of modest accomplishments. (Though to add that, studied analytically in economic terms, Mr. Trump bested Mr. Obama's record.) The ardent nature of their following being inversely proportional to the justification for it.

Trump supporters typically do NOT "worship" him. There may be a few that are over the top (just like some Biden supporters), but they're the exceptions the media purposely highlights.

The vast majority of Trump supporters appreciate the MAGA (Make America Great Again) direction Trump espouses. His policies and goals are to put America First.

Joe Biden's ideas, policies, and Executive Orders all tell us he outs America LAST! Biden insists on making the majority of Americans suffer and making the majority pay for the minority. His party (and his ideas) have spent this country already over $5 TRILLION. His policies have cost American lives, our livelihood, and wasted our resources for absolutely nothing.

If you voted for Biden, please tell me you totally enjoy paying higher prices for just about EVERYTHING! Please tell me you enjoy watching your 401K investment LOSE over 30% of its hard-earned value. Please tell me you completely agree with the MASSIVE invasion on our southern border.

I could go on, but those things I mentioned are the very reasons people are fed up with the White House vegetable! None of that was happening while Trump was President. We'd like our lives to go back to what we had. Biden certainly is NOT making anyone's life better. He's purposely making our lives WORSE!

Worship him? Hell no! But we did like how much BETTER our lives were while he was President.

We actually made money exporting oil and NG for the first time in our history. If he wasn’t blocked at every turn, investigated for something different every three days, allowed to fill his cabinet and confirm all of his judges he might have been a decent president. And his wife was treated like shit. I was just as appalled when they went after Bill Clinton.. so don’t bother pigeon holing me into being a party supporter. I voted for Jim McGreevy and plenty of other democrats here in NJ. I hope he eventually runs again. But if someone like Biden is the best they can put up there, then God help us.
