What would you do if you came into a lot of money?

I may be about to come into a lot of money. I'm talking millions and after all my debt is cleared and I dispense my money to my family, I will quit my job and move to live with my boyfriend in our own place even though I don't like his city very much.

I'll get to be a stay at home girlfriend for a while which will be cool. Plan for a wedding in a year or two, and get to try for kids.

I'll also try to invest and give back to some charities.

What would you do with millions of dollars and is there anything else I should do with the money?

First off, talk with a financial advisor to see which vehicles are most appropriate for the amount you are getting. You want it to last a lifetime, and it's better to still work for a while if you need to as opposed to blowing through more of that up front. I'd try to go at least a year without touching any of it. Once you see it start to grow, try to live only off the interest, leaving the principle behind. Eventually that amount will be enough to live off on and still see the excess grow if you still work another year or two. Then you can use things like Donor Advised Funds (DAF) to give to charities at a far higher rate of appreciated stocks/bonds/ETFs and not have to pay taxes on any of it along the way. That saves more for the charities.

Also never tell anyone how much you're worth.

Reinvest and live off the dividends. DO NOT hire someone to manage it for you that takes percentages in fees. They will make their money whether it is smart investments or losses. Hire a trustworthy accountant who will tell you how much you need to save for taxes. Pay them a flat rate. Learn to invest yourself. If you don't have the patience, diversify by getting into the S&P 500 and some Bitcoin.

Secondly, tell no one. Not even your closest friends. You'd be amazed how greedy people become.

Third, take a month or two vacation to clear your head and dream up a perfect life for yourself. Hedonism only makes you happy for so long. Charity work is great, but make sure it's one that supports the majority of your values.

By, "a lot of money", that would me at least $10 million to me.

• Put 90% of it in conservative investments like treasury bonds and CDs.

I would open not one... but a few Vet Clinic/Rescue centers and take in a lot of strays, and make sure they stay open and running for a long while too

The first thing I would do is change my phone number then get a really good financial advisor. I would move out of my current state, buy a house for me, my sister and my in-laws. Build a "tiny house " community for the homeless. Open a large no kill animal shelter. Donate to charity

I agree with most of what you'd do, If I received a similar amount I'd also seriously think about setting up a hostel/shelter for men in the UK especially ex-servicemen as they are the majority of homeless men in the UK and there are no shelters in the UK for men who have been abused through through Domestic Violence.

first thing I would do would be is to build a streetable, (sort of) 55 chevy gasser.
Then there are a few classic cars on my list, and a proper shop to store and work on them.
