Why did Biden suffer from low turnout and such a large protest vote in the state of Hawaii? Shouldn’t he be worried about his primary performances?

1) As a sitting incumbent, he loses a primary contest (America Samoa) for the first time of any Incumbent in 44 years. The other incumbent being Jimmy Carter in 1980.

2) In many, if not most states he registers below 90% of the vote (which is highly unusual for an incumbent), and in some cases even well below 80%

3) There’s been a large “uncommitted” protest vote against him in battleground states like Michigan or even Minnesota.

4) In the deeply blue state of Hawaii, he suffered from extremely low turnout (only got 1,000 votes) AND only won 66% of the total vote.

5) Any other reasons I’m forgetting?

As to why he did so poorly in Hawaii?

The Maui wildfire response if I had to guess. Having your home burnt down isn’t the kind of thing people can just wake up and forget about quickly.
