What do you think causes homelessness?

I think it is a combination of a poor educational system, economic problems, and mental illness. What do you think?

I think about these things and was just thinking about a different angle of "homelessness".

I think it is a breakdown due to stress that causes deterioration. The foundation of that is underlying trauma, inability to change, and lack of sufficient support systems.

Once one falls down to a level... it's very hard to get back up since the basic needs of life takes so much effort. Imagine the internet and electricity being turned off... our lives would be set back 200 years easy.

Sometimes... it is accumulated bad choices... again... on a foundation of unresolved emotional trauma or simply lack of awareness within the families.

Sometimes the death of parents or loved ones.

Sometimes brain issues cause of which could be anything which we may not know... diet, environmental. Most of which is probably related to parental and social support during development.

It's a tragedy how we handle such people today, the addicted, and criminals. Hopefully future society can look back and say "we fixed that". I have my opinions.

I see the reality of this in my family. Our kid has a ton of support from many successful adults and skilled mother. If she lacked that support to get out of the "ruts" and challenges thrown at her.. she could have been a prostitute, trafficked kid, addict, or anything else. Maybe psycho. As it is, she's highly successful with potential in many directions yet to determine.

Other children lack such support and pay the price in torment. I see that and hear the stories.

Losing your home. I know, that's flippant, but some people can't keep up payments on their mortgage, get foreclosed on, and end up having to either pay more than the mortgage for rented accommodation or live rough.

That's obviously the end point of some other things. What do you think causes people to get to that point?

Often, it's not really their fault. You lose your job, someone gets ill, interest rates rocket... Then there's simple denial, refusal to accept that things have to change before you get in any deeper (sell your house, move somewhere you can afford).

I don't really know, only imagine. And this is very depressing!

Also huge lack of facilities to take care of them and get them back to functioning along with Thier brains being destroyed by drugs.

Also with the attitude of genz... Omg they are mentally ill let them be don't force medication on them. They don't want a nice life. Let them be homeless...

As a nurse this drives me crazy 🤣. Like they can be happy not Bain dead cause they don't want Thier meds.

We get mentally violent people staying for months at the hospital cause we can't place them. Taking a bed that 100 people who need surgeries and recovery need.

Mean while he is being the worst patient biting us harassing us... Failed system and we don't get the staff to watch him cause we barely have enough to function normally.

You are missing the point. People use drugs in order to feel normal or to get relief from psychological pain or sometimes physical pain. Psychological pain is often caused by a lack of economic opportunity, which is also often caused by a lack of education and a lack economic opportunities as a result. I'm sorry to hear that you resent taking care of sick people. Maybe you should find a different career that doesn't make you feel so angry.

No that is a simple reason people use to justify things you can't take away pain! Break up someone does drugs. Family member died they turn to drugs.
Society can never do away with pain... Ever!

No, you cannot take away pain permanently without doing something about the source of it. However, you can mitigate it at least temporarily by using appropriate pain medication. I would think if you were a nurse you would know this.

You can also effectively treat pain of a psychological kind with mental health treatment, but that treatment is slow and difficult and uncertain and extremely expensive.

It's a mindset... most homeless people don't think about the long-term consequences of their decisions. They also very often avoid responsibilities.

Nah. I was homeless for a couple years because of circumstances not aligning properly and my own silly mistakes. Was in college at the time so didn't make a huge impact just took time to get my own place between college and work.
