I would say mainly because Europeans often don´t design their home themselves but there are big companies that build houses and a single person buys them later. That´s so because building a house is expensive and it can take long something many people either don´t want or can´t invest. So they outsourced building to comapnies. Those comapnies build the same one multiple times to make it cheaper. If you want to buy a house over here in a small town you´ll probably have to pay between 500k and 2 million depending on how big and it is so many people live in appartments. Another reason that might be a typical German one is there are laws how a house has to look like so to avoid building a house that doesn´t look it´s supposed to be many people let others decide the way the house look.
