You start with a hard-earned reputation for something (freeing the slaves and standing up for democracy, or building great aircraft), then the marketing and money people take over and profit off that reputation while producing less and less, worse and worse.
The problem is that neither are dealing with consumer goods, they're both playing with people's lives, and Republicans with American democracy.
