What would happen if digital evidence didn't much what was on physical evidence?

Lets say if someone has a court case going on where 99% of the evidence is digital that they are using to covict him. What would happen if nothing they said was on the defenders phone?

Like they said the defenders Was scamming millpns of people online and we have Digital evidence Screenshots that he kept on his phone to brag to his friend about that we made copies of. the defenders says the fbi planted evidence on him and that they didn't get any of it from his phone says he's inccoent. that if is phone looked at none of it would be there. What would then happen if none of what the FBI said they got from his phone waa on it?

In this case there would very obviously be a money trail.

Enough circumstances can convict someone. It is however quite unlikely they can't find the money.

Normally when people do scams like this they operate or move to a country where they will not be prosecuted by the country in which they did the offense.

I think that... if a person is to commit fraud for millions, the FBI can get an order that allows, or forces companies that provide you the service to retrieve evidence from wherever they store it

other than that... if you accuse the FBI of planting evidence, you would have to prove how they did it

The phone would have already been confiscated... There's also going to be more evidence than just what is on the phone especially when it comes to scamming.
