If evidence no longer matters in politics, what happens to democracy?

The government lies like hell about virtually everything, and we just sit there and swallow the lies more often than not because there's nobody to counteract them or contradict them. The President of the United States does not know truth from fiction and so he lies about his war, and the economy, and everything else you think and think of, and we sit and listen. Probably about half of us think he's telling the truth, and the other half of us are so disgusted that we don't contradict him. Government Storm Troopers kill people in the streets in Minneapolis in cold blood. When we see the videotapes, we know that these people did nothing to threaten the Storm Troopers, and yet the Storm Troopers and the people that tell them what to do say, "Oh, they pointed guns," as if that were really true. We can look at the videotapes and know it wasn't true, but it doesn't matter what we say. All that matters is what the government supervisors of the Storm Troopers have to say and the excuses they make. Why is that? What's this going to end in? What will it lead to?

You make a good point, but what is more important in a democracy is a free press that will expose the lies and allow people to discuss politics. The problem with what you're talking about isn't the lack of a free press, is the existence of propagandists instead of a free press.

With regards to the incidents you're referring to, you don't seem to be considering context or the entire circumstances.

We used to have laws put in place for reasons but nowadays everything is so communist that it doesn't even matter anymore and so what do you think our government is also teaching Us by allowing this to happen it sucks it's wrong and they should all not be in office

Or any other rights now that's a little bit of a exaggeration but we are headed right there yes it is communist look at all the things coming up in the future all the bills that are trying to be passed look at all the things they're doing right now that are against the law they're in our phones they're in our business they're everywhere

The best part about you is that you are you you only know what you know or what you've been told instead of doing the research yourself to learn the truth but that's okay we only know what we know

Evidence matters as long as people care about truth. A democracy can and will destroy itself if half of the votes are against democracy.
The main flaw of democracy is, that it can get rid of itself if people are convinced their leader or goal is better than freedom. Thats why a common goal against another group is such effective in people agreeing to get rid of their own freedom.

Politicians don't need to lie anymore, we do that for them and far far better than they can. We spread misinformation, rumours, propaganda for them better than any government agent could and at no cost and free them from accountability.

Plus each time we're spreading shit, it generates big advertisement bucks in the process, which makes each next wave of misinformation very profitable for... a bunch of US guys in control of all social media companies

evidence only matters in courts that is why it does not matter in politics. in u. s. news companies do report different than trump claims so don't lie "nobody to counteract them or contradict them" the "fact checkers who lost credibility do contradict trump. too bad they lie even more.
