Democracy is falling apart because we are becoming less and less tolerate of sharing the vast power.
Meanwhile our goverment is becoming more and more authoritarian in using its force to help pick who will be in power. Much like the old Roman Praetorian Guard.
That we have now given all future presidents a solid personal security reason NOT to give up power with the attack on a former president at Mar a Lago all but guarantee a future president one day will not give up power peacefully after an ugly election.
Until this power is completely abolished in a way as to convince all future presidents of their safety in stepping down. Democracy under our constitutional system which invest so much critical power in the president over the army has been mortally wounded. Its just a matter of time and circumstances now before what happen to Latin American republics happens to us.
In our case this will likely result in a War between States as our States are still large and independent enough to raise armies and fight each other and the federal Government.
no, it's because we have more diversity. too many types of people can't share a democracy. too many different inerests
I do. Time was, losing an election meant you'd mutter some bad words, then think "Oh, well; it's not our turn this year"; nowadays, it means you scream that it was stolen and demand legal action, insisting that your opponent is a crazed authoritarian who wants to "ruin democracy".
This wasn't an overnight development; it's been building for quite a long time; the 2000 election kicked it into a higher gear, and the 2016 one still higher. I think that a big part of it is social engineers trying to drum up more unquestioning support for their "side" by building public rage, but it's going to rapidly spiral out of control, if it hasn't already; most people don't seem to WANT to reconcile.
Every year Washington takes control of more and more aspects of our lives so every election the stakes get higher and higher for everyone.
How exactly do you expect people to not care when soo much has been put on the line?
On top of that our election rules in State after State are becoming more and more complicated with fewer and fewer safeguards against fraud.
Like it or not:
1. The more complicated an election process, the fewer people will understand and have faith in it.
2. The more opportunities an election process presents for fraud the fewer people will believe it didn't take place.
If you want people to have faith in elections:
A) Stop making their rules so complicated, opaque, and easily cheated.
B) Stop changing the rules at the last minute, before people can understand, learn how to play by them and accept them.
C) Hold transparent bipartisan investigations on any significant allegation.
Frankly if you want to maintain the trust of the people election system must be simple and straight forward enough to have the support of a super majority there of
Had Trump been able to do what he wanted to in his Jan 6 insurrection--he would have succeeded in making voting no longer valid in this country. People don't realize that our freedom to vote was threatened then by an angry president and people who wanted him to stay. Our votes would not have counted ever after that--and democracy would be out the window. What if they really did happen to hurt Mike Pence, or worse? What if they had taken that box with all of the state votes and thrown it away?
Hopefully, nothing like this will ever happen again. If it does, we can consider ourselves to have lost out democracy and our place in the world as leaders.
You been listening too much to Democrat political propaganda and ignoring the contradictory fact that power was handed over peacefully and none of the people protesting were armed and left of their own accord when asked to, despite having arms and being in effective control at that point.
The fact is our President Constitutional system invest all executive power over the military and federal agencies into the president. If ANY president wanted to do anything there is nothing but a lack of money, and opposition from the States that would stop him.
Hence why you were warned about maintaining a standing federal federal army, and the Federal Constitution has a 2 year funding clause in Article 1 section 8 clause 12, while also not providing for any other kind of standing army like the FBI, ATF, etc..
Given we are maintain the largest army in the world under the direct command of that same President, you have nothing but faith, good will, and fear of the States to keep any president from doing whatever he wants with it.
That is exactly what HAS happened in countless Latin American Republics which copied our constitutional system.
So no, If Trump wanted to remain in office he would still be in office, he would not have told the protestors to go home, he would have brought in the army to replace them, and simply dismissed and replaced any officer that refused.

old ladies have no idea how to watch the news properly , trump did nothing wrong and there was no "insurrection"
Without people there is no country
@DryGermanGuy What is with you Germans in American politics which you don't understand. Isn't killing off your own country taxing enough?
Here is some hints:
A) CNN isn't the most reliable source.
B) outgoing RINO leadership tends to try and ingratiate themselfs to left-wing media for job so you have to take what they say with a lot of salt.
C) Even if you believe what he is claiming about his competitor, all he is suggesting is a historically normal procedure for States. American States have compete control over all elections. The Electors belong entirely to the State who can cast them however they want. Which is why not every state is a winner take all system. Originally all states cast them via state legislator vote.
There is nothing unusual much less national socialist about States altering that selection process.
@007kingifrit I can tell you’re very dense.
@KrakenAttackin Classic republican male, bent on destroying speech he doesn't like. Your kind is the worst of the worst and the single biggest threat to democracy.
@007kingifrit Bingo. Who knew that old ladies would be such a threat to the Republic. In the middle of every BLM riot, ANTIFA riot, LGBTQ protest, what do we see? A bunch of entitled white women.
What concerns me more is people in general are out of control drinking alcohol crazy stuff. My generation no longer cares about the Lord they just think it's okay I will pray when I'm old. No reading the Bible every single day is important, going to church on Sundays is very important. I always play Christian music in my truck and home. I may at the point to where I have more respect for JW even if they have different ways. I rather interact with a JW lady then a stripper.
Stay away from Javoha witness. They are a cult. Those people don't believe in the diety of Jesus nor in hell.
Wait Jehovah's witnesses don't believe in hell? It's so very clear in the bible that hell does exist.
For example Catholics claim to believe in Jesus Christ but they never follow Gods rulers they are always out getting drunk drinking and worthship statues.
Their version of hell is you get thrown in there and die and cease to exist anymore.
They point to the second death, they think it means not being physically alive but rather the Bible teaches the second death is to be dead in your sins, not that you don't exist anymore.
Hispanic cool guy Ye syou are right. It is very clear in the bible that hell does exist. Who ever doesn't repent from thier sins will go to hell.

Non-American, democracy was created by white men, and it would likely get extinct with white men.

Yes, because the losing side of presidential contests has refused to view the winner as legitimate ever since Bush the Younger. Also, the manipulation of procedure and information allows those with money to manipulate public opinion more than ever, and people see through this now in ways they did not a decade ago. There was the Time magazine article bragging about how the election was “fortified” by a “cabal” that “conspired” to sway the outcome in the elite’s favor. This discredits the whole process. The president just declared those who voted against him to be enemies of democracy, which implies strongly they should not be able to vote.
I think so. Too many edgy right-wingers are burning books and defunding community colleges and job training programs for poor people. Public libraries are being closed down, and many opportunities for poor people to get an equal chance of success are disappearing—no more open admissions for students who go to struggling schools. I do not have any more remedial classes at colleges in my state anymore. The right wing says they believe in equal opportunity, yet they close all the things that make it possible. It is all about money and politics now. I am just happy I got my job and education, and my kids are attending a good school currently, but many will remain impoverished. I had to take advantage of the programs while they were still there, but now they are gone.

@Avicenna, I gave you a book written by a professor talking about the defunding of community colleges. He has a PhD.
There I provided all the evidence. There is a video of someone burning books. I rest my case. Read the book written by a professor. Or would you instead burn that book too?

You are used to reading conspiracy theories in magazine articles from Infowars. You probably forgot what creditable sources look like. I read scholarly journals and books. Not rekt feminist magazine articles and crazy people like Alex Jones.
Actually, you have shown yourself to be a crazy conspiracy theorist and that's why you are anonymous- you are ashamed of your extreme and false comments.
If you want to cite something in the book you merely provided an Amazon link to, you need to paraphrase or quote passages that support your wild claim. But I doubt you can do that, and until you do your claim is considered false.
Just curious, but what state is it that you live in since you claim there are no more remedial classes at the tertiary level anymore? That's a claim that can be evaluated.
vanity fair isn't a legit news source. and the left is doing more censorship than the right
Democracy is already lost. You can't have democracy unless you have an informed populace. We don't have that. We are inundated with misinformation.
How many people vote on merit alone? Almost none. It's almost never an argument of merit. It's an argument of perception. That's mind control. Merit and truth are carefully avoided when only perception matters. That's not democracy.
This nation has stepped to the left left it's foundation behind. We have one political party that thinks they need to be the rulers (royalty) of this nation. This political party has a tendency to think that the people cannot think for themselves. This political party has a tendency to give a lot of things away and don't realize that they need to taxes to pay for their free stuff. And then there's the other side that does not like to be taxed the rule of the government should be small. Both parties are always fighting and creating chaos in the political spectrum. They continue to do so once they are in party. My feelings is we need to have term limits. And once you're in office you're no longer an independent, Democrat or Republican you are a United States civil servant. You work for the people. The people do not work for you. George Washington once said we should not have political parties it will ruin our country.
When W gave the you’re either with me or against me speech, even as a kid I was worried. In Biden‘s Hitler speech was a lot more of the same, unnecessarily but purposefully divisive rhetoric against political opponents when we’re having a minor meltdown. I pray that it stays minor, but there’s just no way that the powers that be so reliably making the wrong decisions could be an accident. And I say that without respect to party.
Eh, it's been fucked for awhile. With that, yes there is future damage on the horizon definitely with freedom of speech. Sadly I see that younger people that live their lives online and just believe the bullshit they're told so they can get back to a stream or tiktoc is the actual danger.
It should be pointed out that we are not a democracy, we are a slave republic because the slave owners made it condition that in order for them to be in the union, they would have to be given some power so the electoral college was made up to please the slave owners and now the electoral college is nothing more than a bunch of former slave owners who want to punish the country for daring to take away their slaves.
our armies haven't won a war in 80 years, our politicians haven't solved a problem in our lifetime of any kind, our academics spew nonsense with 70% studies being unreproducable, and our journalists lie to our faces and twist words
yes, the republic will fall. and good riddance.
The fall of the Republic is a very undesirable thing for everyone.
Who cares if the army loses pointless wars, when the only point of said army was to protect the States and their people. Not forign states and our leader's ego for power around the world.
Regardless the same army remains today given their total centralization in the President the greatest threat to the republic. For thou they are losing wars they are more than capable of consolidating power of any president if so ordered.
@monorprise none of our wars are pointless and would have increaseed our power and wealth substantially if they had been won, you have no imagination. your wealth is decreasing and you blither and blather without understanding WHY your wealth is decreasing.
the republic has worn out it's use. it is time for democracy to enter the maintenance phase where we eliminate what doesn't work by turning off rule of law and letting the strong decide.
Trumpers believe that if they lose an election, it must mean their opponent cheated, and they are perfectly willing to riot in response to that as we have already seen on Jan 6. They will do it again when one of them loses. Democracy relies on free and honest elections and acceptance of losses, and without that, there is no democracy.
If you want people to have faith in elections:
A) Stop making their rules so complicated, opaque, and easily cheated.
B) Stop changing the rules at the last minute, before people can understand, learn how to play by them and accept them.
C) Hold transparent bipartisan investigations on any significant allegation.
The more complicated an election process, the fewer people will understand and have faith in it.

Democracy has proven to be an awful method of governance. People are too stupid to be trusted with that responsibility. Unfortunately, I don't think there's really a better alternative. I'm willing to consider a rotating monarchy though.
That's even worse, the only reason Democracy isn't working is because they have made the voting rules soo complicated, and fraud prone in more and more states that a larger and larger share of the population no longer has faith in them.
Thus we are in effect to those people no different than a rotating dictatorship.
The only reason people care is the same goverment has assumes soo much power over everything as to put everything on the line every election.
In fact they have assumed soo much power over the last 200 years even our 'elected' federal politicians haven't a clue what is being done to us with it.
We are as such effectively in a monarchy already ruled by the elite bureaucracy of Washington D. C.
They entire US political system is sitting in the garbage disposal just waiting for someone to hit the wall switch.
The arrest of Katherine Henry already proved to me that we're already a banana republic.
It's been gone for a while already, it just that few people have noticed.
More like in danger of not being on the map in the future lmao
We’re not supposed to be a Democracy, any way. But the Constitutional Republic is being lost.
As the Founding Fathers predicted, the greatest threat to our Republic is from within. Wokeness is the darkest of all cancer.
I'm not an American but I do have an opinion. Trump's rallies remind me of the Nuremberg rallies except they're more retarded.
I think we’re okay overall. 24/7 media and American anti-intellectualism is concerning.
We are a former Constitutional Republic. We were never a Democracy.
Communism has successfully inched it's way into every vestige of American society
If Dems get their way and like ok at this vote look out midterms
The US was never technically a democracy so you can't lose what you never had.
Its all just left wing media hype bullsht
under trump, it was/is
Lost years ago
Nope.
Agreed man. Our democracy is always under threat. Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. People love to point out income inequality and I agree it's a problem. But it's a problem that the United States has (and society) has ALWAYS dealt with. The fact is the standard of living in this country has never been higher. Problem is debt and whatnot has never been higher either. The American dream only works when people still believe it's achievable. This is one of the reason I'm so torn on the college loan forgiveness. It's a good thing in the long run. But this is a problem that should never have been allowed to persist to begin with. And it's going to penalize so many who've already paid iff thier student loans. But there's always winners and lovers in every action.
