Why do you misrepresent what happened:

"The Tennessee state House voted overwhelmingly in favor of a bill banning cousin marriage on Thursday shortly after Representative Gino Bulso, whose grandparents were married first cousins, defended the practice and offered an amendment that would have allowed it to continue if couples received genetic counseling. Only Bulso and fellow Republican Representative Monty Fritts voted against it."

    That's from your own source.

The overwhelming majority of Republicans voted against it

I didn't say the number of Republicans that fought against it in my post. It's still true that multiple republicans fought against it

Wow, 2 republicans opposed it! Talk about misrepresenting things. And the article you cited even explained why.

Cousin marriage is big in some parts of the world:

      worldpopulationreview.com/.../inbreeding-by-country

Are you willing to denounce those societies? There's a whole lot more than two people supporting it there.

Liberals rarely get past the headline of an article so it's just another example of them posting links that prove themselves wrong..

@David94358: Excellent point. Perfect example of confirmation bias. And, strangely, the anonymous far-left OP hasn't mustered the courage to denounce the high incidence of first cousin marriage in some countries.

And here's a map of the states that allow cousin marriage:

      www.newsweek.com/map-states-marry-cousin-tennessee-ban-1889727

Note that Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, California, Illinois, Connecticut, New Jersey and New Mexico, all heavily Democratic states, are among them.

So are you going to denounce the Democrats in those states I listed above? Cousin marriage is legal in their states.

Any idea why Democrats in those states haven't banned it? Does that mean they support it?

Only potentially? I would say it's not just potential. Otherwise, those heavily Democratic states would have banned it. Democrats also want lots of people from countries where cousin marriage is common to come to the US, and obviously they will bring/have brought their cousin spouses with them.

OK, so you're European. When it's another country's political system, your perspective is likely to be very different. In the US, you would be considered a far-left extremist.

I lived over half my life in Europe and have lots of European relatives. European Green Party members have views that in general are considered far, far left in the US, plus they're constantly obsessing over their caricatures of US Republicans.

People in rural areas believe they have fewer options and so are are more prone to incest and/or pedophilia. Plus, people in rural areas are further from civilized cities so it's easier to barinwash them with scary stories about urban life, driving them into the arms of the republican party. So, there is correlation between the two but they don't cause each other - rather they share a common cause, which is isolation.

It's not against the law here in Britain. People just know not to marry their cousin. We were shocked when jerry Lee Lewis came over married to his 13 year old cousin.
