It's not a question of which flag is best, but which is second best; Wales already has the top spot locked down:

Just "hey, here's a dragon". My vote for number 2 goes to Kazakhstan:

Compare this to say, France's "let's take the Dutch flag and turn it sideways!", Italy's "let's take the Mexican flag and remove the only interesting part!", or the Ivory Coast's* "let's take the Irish flag and turn it upside down!", to say nothing of Chad's "let's just take Romania's flag; what're THEY going to do about it?". Some countries just have NO sense of style.

By the way, Wales: don't get complacent. Yes, you've got a dragon, but it's not playing an electric guitar, or riding a motorcycle in a thunderstorm. There's still room for improvement.

Flags are more than just something that looks pretty, they have a purpose. While the Israeli flag is not necessarily bad, I also dont think its the best in that its a bit too complicated. Part of what a flag has to be is to be simple both to remember and to draw. If a child can remember the flag and draw it then that is the gold standard.

Japan for example has a beautiful example of a perfect flag. A white background with a red circle in the middle, can't get any simpler or better than that.
