Why do we have old goats in Congress at 89?

These people should have been retired at 65, as should have Biden. How can senile people make good decisions when they don't even know which way to go without help? If they haven't solved our country's problems in 30 years they won't be starting anytime soon.

(RepublicanPress. org) – On April 6, media outlets erupted with the news of the passing of former Democratic Rep. and Maine Gov. Joseph Brennan. Writer and longtime friend Frank O’Hara told news organizations that the 89-year-old politician died peacefully at home with his wife by his side.

Brennan died of natural causes at home. A lifelong resident of Maine, he passed away a few blocks away from the third-story tenement housing unit where he grew up with his Irish immigrant parents in Munjoy, a predominantly working-class neighborhood of Portland. His obituary confirmed that Brennan was the fifth of eight children.

Well of course they would be old, they are people who clings to power and are fairly successful at doing so. Also, especially in the Republicans case they also ruined the next generation that would have replaced them. The new generation of Republican politicians in the house as an example are absolutely insane and not particularly good at this whole politic business.

That said, term limits is a really bad idea. It is hard to find a good politician where as people who like to corrupt politics can create new puppets as quickly as they can throw money at them. By increasing the rate at which they are replaced you are just stacking the government with more and more corrupted politicians.

@Avicenna I am not talking about good as in morally good. I am talking about good as in they are good at their job. I am fairly pragmatic, I dont particularly care how good of a person someone is if they are doing a good job. Fact is, most politicians are complete waste of space and needs to be replaced.

You dont have to agree with my political views to point out that the current house in USA for example is completely ineffective, as in can't even do its job properly, and that is irrespective of what legislation you think they should be passing since they aren't passing any right now.

They aren't really the ones in control. There is a secret government behind the scenes that makes all the decisions. These people are just the faces they use to make us think we live in a country where your vote matters. I figured this out a long time of go... few people believed me but over time more & more have come to see how it works.

Where I live we don't even have term limits for the leader of the nation, so someone could theoretically remain in the top job for 50 years. Thankfully, that hasn't happened yet.

Because they are bought and paid for decades ago by lobbying groups, special interests, and aspects of the government they are not invested in causing difficulties for. As a result their campaigns are robustly funded and any political threat to their existence is discredited and clipped at the wings.

Everyone should get 18 years. Congress m SCOTUS. POTUS 8 is enough. Stagger the SCOTUS so one retired every two years. Senate you get three terms. 18 preserves institutional memory which is important. 70 max for all. Better yet, rip up the Constitution and start again.

We have rigged political system, that ensures establishment candidates get elected. Easier for elites to ensure the same bought and paid for candidate gets elected then take their chances with someone new. We don't need term limits, we need money out of politics and we need to replace voting machines with paper ballots that are hand counted out in the open for everyone to see.

Money, power and greed! They excuse themselves from everything that the average working person has to abide by. Obama care for one! The first thing they did was to exempt themselves from it and then vote for it to see what was in it!
Take the benefits, perks and the cushy retirement away and then maybe they wouldn’t stick around.

the average human is terrified of change. whoever ruled until now must continue. even if stuff is as bad as California and new york. change is scarier.
