If a politician accepts criticism, or ever admits they made a mistake, it opens a flood gate. It will be constantly thrown back at them. In the public view, and in political mud slinging, it will cast doubt on everything they do in the future. They'll never hear the end of it.

It's much the same with normal people, but not as bad since they aren't scrutinized by millions of people.

Well then how am I supposed to trust one? They need to humble or respond to criticism with improvement. This is screw up man, conservatives believe in personal responsibility, yet there politicians don't?

You are being too idealistic. In practice they will never hear the end of it. Their opponents will jump all over that.

The populace wants to be lied to. They want to be told everything will be OK. They want to believe it. They don't want to hear excuses. They don't want to be told by politicians that they don't have the power to fix things. They don't want to be told that something can't be done, even if it can't.

Politicians, and especially the president, are either demonized or praised for whatever happens, whether they had anything to do with it or not. Look at the economy. Look at all the people who blame or give credit to the president for the economy. The president doesn't have a damn thing to do with it, but they are still blamed or given credit for it.

It's just a political reality.
