Thanks for inviting me to share an opinion. I've never gotten any type of noncriminal infraction citation, nor been convicted of any crime or violation. (I was pulled over once, but this was because deputies had probable cause to believe I was a burglary suspect. But once they identified me, they determined that I was not he, and I was permitted to go upon my way with their apologies.) But I do know a few things. Laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but I can tell you how things work in Florida.

Under Florida Statutes, a ticket for exceeding the posted limit by 30 mph or more results in a mandatory court appearance. The state fine starts at $250 for a conviction, and this is doubled if it's in a school zone or construction zone, or if this isn't the first conviction for 30+ over the limit. There are usually additional fees depending on the city and county in which the violation took place. There would also be about 4 points assessed on your license. There would also be the risk of a conviction for reckless driving, which can result in up to 90 days in jail, with considerations about whether there may be reasons to suspend your license. And any conviction, noncriminal or otherwise, will probably tick off your insurance company.

If you get caught doing 84 miles per hour in a 55 zone in Florida, consider yourself lucky that you were just one mph shy of some serious repercussions. And remember that it could have been much worse: be thankful that you're still alive to talk about it.

Unsafe driving practices can have worse consequences than a ticket.

76 in a 55 is the worst I've gotten. I knew better than to do it. I had been driving cross country where speeds get pretty high. But you gotta slow down when you get to the towns and cities. I slowed a little, but not enough. Since I was from out of state, I had to go to the court to pay the fine on the spot.

Yes, I wa driving home at 2 or 3AM on the hiway doing over 90 MPH. I was pretty much alone on the highway. The cop came out of nowhere and wrote me up. It was before it would end up on your insurance so I just had to pay a fine. Since I was out of state the cop gave me some BS about how he usually locks up out of state offenders because a lot of them don. t pay the fines. I thanked him for letting me go and promised I would send a check tommorrow.

I would say the potential legal consequences are different in every state. The highest speeding ticket I ever got was 40 km/h over (120 in an 80 zone), which was rather cheap back then, 125 € fine and 3 points in the travel register.

Sorry but that is a definite ticket.. Also, they could do on other charges too.. Such as dangerous driving, or driving without due care and attention.

not 30 over, I was doing 72 in a 55 zone in my triaxle dump truck uphill with a load.
That thing was fast.

So 55mph would accept being pushed to 68mph
