Is there any significant difference between the trial of Joan of Arc and the Trump trials?

They both had delusions, but at least Joan had a military victory to show for it. Joan incited violence against a foreign invader. Trump incited violence against his own government. Joan was extremely patriotic and was burned to death by the invading army--they considered her that dangerous. By contrast, Trump has believed Putin over his own intelligence agencies. He has negotiated the freeing of thousands of Taliban, one of which then became the country's leader--though he denied responsibility afterward, in true Trump fashion. He has worked hard to alienate allies in NATO. He cannot say anything bad about Putin when asked. He has looked into the possibility of Russia paying his legal debts. (After all, they were a spigot for him for decades, in particular via a pipeline provided by Deutsche Bank until DB got busted and fined.) The neighbors of Russia and China are not happy with the power that Trump has ceded to them. So rather than foreign enemies committing violence against Trump, they would more likely give him a medal.

Trump sent out an order for families of U. S. military to leave South Korea. Why? Because Trump saw a general on Fox News say that the U. S. wasn't serious about its options if it kept sending military families there. Chief of Staff McMaster, himself a general, passed the order along to Mattis, who basically said, “Fuck you. We’re not going to do it.” Mattis then showed up within hours at the WH to get Trump to reverse the order, explaining that this could be misconstrued by the North as far more than regular escalation, and it also used up a negotiating gesture with no upside. This whole event was never made public. The military also wouldn’t go along with intercepting North Korean freighters transporting illicit cargo.

Even after Mattis left, quitting over Trump’s pressure to withdraw from Syria, impatient Trump, eager to fulfill a campaign promise to turn the international order upside down, would still insist that the Pentagon was slow-rolling him and actively resisting his orders. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dunford would explain that this was not the case, that the Pentagon would do what he wanted, but that first they would put together options for Trump so that a plan could be carried out that perhaps wasn’t as risky as the one Trump first proposed.

These were among many ways that people learned to handle Trump’s uninformed, impetuous efforts to upset the apple cart, as well as insincerely agreeing with him for five minutes before using the word “but,” and letting him be the only one to give an extended lecture. Success became defined as stopping Trump from doing what he demanded, or at least convincing him, however temporarily, to pursue another course. He was a toddler surrounded by grownups who all knew he was a toddler.

In both cases the judges were going to convict regardless of the evidence or lack of evidence.

I guess they prosecute ANYONE that is found to violate a law... so lots of people better watch out now. You'd think NYC would implode in lawsuits. I'd buy stock in law firms if you can... or maybe they just wanted to destroy this guy. There were other politicians "taken out" because they didn't' want them... not the first.

It's too bad they don't prosecute the existing president, but he was determined not fit to stand trial. go figure...
