This is a trial that was fast-tracked to convict Trump (who I don't like either nor am I a Republican) when any other time with any other high-profile case, it would take years to get a result. But with Trump the system wanted to make sure to convict him quick in an effort to hinder him him from re-election, and that does look like a political plot.
I do believe Trump will end up getting re-elected because the people who support him don't care about any guilty verdict, and they don't believe he's guilty anyway, and even if they do they still don't care. People who voted for him the first time are still going to vote for him again. But this won't apply to Biden. There will be people who voted for him the first time but won't do it a second. They're not going to vote for Trump, but they aren't going to vote for Biden either, so they'll simply sit out the race. Thus allowing Trump to win re-election.
If those 18% Haley voters don't get on the Trump train he doesn't have a chance of winning if they stay home.

Of course not; he hasn't been killed. He's simply gained a great deal of sympathy for the persecution he's endured at the hands of his political enemies. The decision to remove him from the ballot in various states on the grounds of being guilty of a crime he hadn't even been tried for was the stupidest thing the DNC could've done; it not only showed their blatant disrespect for the law, but turned Trump into a hero.

The notion that Nixon "sabotaged" the Vietnam peace talks - when the LBJ Administration could not even agree on *the shape of the negotiating table* for the talks, let alone start them, and especially after the 1968 Chicago Democrat Party Convention, with riots outside *and inside* that convention - was a sad joke and a pathetic clutching at straws on the part of Hubert Humphrey and his acolytes.
As for "Escalating the Cold War, risking the destruction of human civilization", Nixon's Administration was the Administration that negotiated SALT I (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks part One) and undertook the concept of "detente" (coming to terms with the Soviet Union's defined sphere of influence, and realizing that Maoism and Sovietism were two different Communist strains). Even the left-leaning Bulletin Of The Atomic Scientists moved their "doomsday clock" up 5 minutes, from 7 minutes to midnight to 12 minutes to midnight, observing what Nixon had done. (The Brezhnev Doctrine destroyed detente and made it a fool's errand, but that came in the Jimmy Carter Administration a few years later).
Enough has been written about the Nixon Administration, ranging from the mildly positive to the severely negative, to fill countless Internet bandwidth, let alone countless volumes of printed material. (And it should be noted that praise vs. criticism of Nixon was NOT a strictly Right vs. Left matter; some of Nixon's harshest critics were on the Right, and they attacked him for detente and for not only letting much of LBJ's "Great Society" welfare state stay in place, but even expanding it! And many Left leaners, like Daniel Patrick Moynihan, actually praised Nixon at times!)
However, all honest accounts of that Administration will acknowledge that from the day he took office, Nixon was looking for a way to gracefully back out of the Vietnam debacle.
Some fascinating history: In Nixon's White House, there were younger advisors, among them a then younger Ben Stein (a lawyer, White House policy analyst, and later law professor, before he became the small time actor who bored the students into comas in the Generation X movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off") who urged Tricky Dick to "Just withdraw, get out, and blame Vietnam on the Democrats," because it just was not winnable given political constraints. Even if that meant a humiliating communist victory on their watch.
Nixon chose not to do that, partly because he hoped he could get the Republic of (South) Vietnam to stand on its own as long as the US aid and air strikes kept going (a. k. a. "Vietnamization"), but even more importantly because of the surprising strength of the "Bombs Away With Wallace And LeMay" campaign. Forget Ross Perot's Cult of Personality, 1968 was the last election that actually had a real 3rd party. It not only won 5 states electorally, but even had high popular vote percentages - outside of its Deep South core area. The History that gives the 1960s a romantic hagiography forgets that fact. A sizeable percentage of the American electorate still wanted to go in, and harder core at that. And even more strikingly, that support apparently came from the working class most likely to fight the war, rather than the upper and middle classes using connections to buy their way out or going deeper into colleges as a draft deferment.
And even more importantly, the polling data among Americans, if you look at it closely, was increasingly anti-war, but not in the way many would think and sadly still do think. Few saw the view of the Far Left that the war was a crime and a moral outrage. The overwhelming polls of the anti-war people saw it rather as a mistake, and that the USA strategy was failing to win. At best/worst (depending upon whose point of view), they shared the view of Ben Stein and the other younger staffers in the Nixon White House that the war was just not winnable.
But I digress. The original point was that The Deep State has learned how to Media Character Assassinate, so actual assassinations are just no longer needed.

What he is is an idol. Which means that people place importance upon him that he hasn’t actually earned. He represents things for people that he hasn’t actually agreed to. @grega239 a conventional prison is unlikely, yes. And in any case the point of prison is to teach someone the error of their ways. I don't think he can learn anything of the sort so any sentence should be a life sentence, if the warden has a basic understanding of the situation - especially factoring in his age.
So, really, reform is out of the question. The point of putting a guy like Trump in prison is to stop him from committing more crimes. And there are other ways to do that besides prison. House arrest is a perfectly adequate solution as long as his communications are closely monitored so he can't encourage anyone else to commit crimes on his behalf.

The trial was not in any way shady.
However, it was not broadcast. So, necissarily, whatever you "understand" about the trial was told to you by someone else. The thing to ask yourself is whether or not the person telling you is someone who would prefer that Trump wins. And remember that Trump represents the idea of winning at all costs - and in terms of costs, lying is free. So, is the person who told you the trial was shady the sort of person who would lie to you to help Trump get elected, if they were convinced that might work?
And the answer is yes. There are no Trump supporters who want him to win based on merit or they would have already abandoned him when he had the republican border bill killed by whining about having nothing to campaign on if it passed. He should have instead acted like it was his idea and then >the number one problem republicans complain about would have been solved<. And he could have easily taken credit for it if he stayed ahead of it. But he didn't. Because that's what it is to lack all merit.
