We hear about this "Labour landslide".. They got 1.5% more than they got when they lost BADLY last time. They only won this big because the right vote was split... Proportional representation is so much more fair.

No proportional representation is a really bad system, just look at countries where they have it and the number of hung or coalition governments produced. I would prefer a different system but not Proportional. Alternative Vote may be a better option.

With Proportional Representation for the 2024 election we would have had the racist fuckwits from Reform getting elected, the inept Lib Dem’s and the utterly pathetic Green Party. The government would have to cut deals with the greens and Lib Dem’s to get anything through Parliament, this would result in more Green Party policy being enacted.
The thought of reform with any level of involvement in government is scary.

There is the the case for future elections, the use of proportional representation being gamed.

Christian party of UK

Muslim Party of UK

White Party of UK

Black Party of UK

etc etc

The weird and wonderful now get a very good chance of getting a number of MPs elected, not ones that represent political parties but causes and extreme views.

While First Past the Post is not great and has failings, it does a pretty good job of keeping extreme parties to a low number of seats or totally excluding them.
