Do you think in the future architecture will be too similar all over the world?

In the past every culture had their own way of building things and it reflected their way of living. But today some firm is tasked with making a plan and they might be from the other side of the world from where the actual project is happening. Don't get me wrong I like modern buildings and the practical aspects are a lot better today than in the past. And I also like the look, I feel very comfortable in these modern places. It feels like everything is thought of, if it's well designed. But I feel like in the future you won't be able to tell where you are at all, unless you read a sign because all the shopping districts and stuff will look similar. They will build some landmarks to differentiate themselves but everything else will look the same.

Do you have any idea where these places are based on the architecture?

One time people constructed with local materials and methods and that contributed to the uniqueness of each area. Now it seems we've just got a handful of architects chucking out the same off the shelf designs everywhere.

Another problem is in the past buildings were built to last, we have buildings several hundred years old throughout Europe still in use. Today many are only designed to last a few decades which is why we have crumbling schools and hospitals.

I'm in a ''designing'' profession myself, and our junior staff is not encouraging me to believe that some new and ''revolutionary'' thoughts will pop up during my remaining lifetime.

No. What the Chinese especially are doing is breathtaking. Their "belt and road" project is ambitious in a way that defies words. South American and arabian architecture is also quite unique!
