I was aware anyone can get fully automatic weapons, rocket launchers etc. But to most, the cost puts them out of reach. Fully automatic weapons come a shit ton of red tape, verification from by the ATF and a very high cost. Putting them out of the reach of most law abiding citizens.

No…. They didn’t give rights or take away…the bill of rights was written more prosaic than it should have. It’s a list that was meant to change with the times.

I did indeed. People back then were privateers and owned their own war ships.

A privateer is a private person or ship that engages in maritime warfare under a commission of war. Because of the high level of piracy and impressment, merchant ships where armed. A sovereign or delegated authority issued commissions, also referred to as a letter of marque, during wartime.

Often these privateers were considered military by one side and pirates by the other.
