In the article, Ballerina Farm talks about how she wanted to become a ballerina, but now feels exhausted all the time because of the kids and the farm. And she says on her birthday, her multi-millionaire husband gave her an apron instead of a trip to Greece. People are upset about Hannah Neeleman’s @BallerinaFarm because her portrayal of a perfect, traditional farm life contrasts sharply with reality. Her curated social media content, which romanticizes traditional gender roles and homemaking, perpetuates unrealistic standards and pressures for women.

No, it doesn't change my perspective. I live in Utah, not far from where Hannah Neeleman lives. I am not Mormon, like she is, but I grew up here, I have a ton of Mormon friends, and I know a lot of Mormon families of all ages. I will just make a couple of observations.

Family is everything in this life, and Mormons know that and live accordingly. When I think about the older women I know, the happiest of them (not ALL of them are Mormon) are the ones who raised a family and are now enjoying the rewards. Having a strong family with adult children in your life, loving you and taking care of you, is way better than the alternative. I believe it's the key to happiness as older adults.

Being a stay at home mother is NOT easy. That period in a woman's life is challenging for sure. But it pays off in the long run, and too many people don't realize that until it's too late, which is sad.

Taking one example and trying to use it to say everyone who chooses the life Neeleman has chosen is miserable and regrets their choices is very dishonest.

The biggest issue I have is her famous social media account with millions of followers is under his name so it makes sense if she feels a bit trapped when he litterally owns the one thing she has. Everything else is typical tradwife shit. That type of lifestyle has never been romanticized in my opinion. Those wives just become slaves to their husband's. Also him trying to control her births is absolutely disgusting. A man should never be deciding how a woman gives birth that should be her choice only

My only criticism of "tradwife" stuff is it can be performative. Sometimes they value the aesthetics of a nice looking family more than actually having one. This is sort of an example of that. Although a lot of it is speculation. People think her husband is horribly abusive and forcing her to stay in the relationship. Really we don't have evidence for that. He may have done a-hole stuff like only get her an apron for her birthday, but in general he seems to provide for his family. It's not the picture perfect relationship you might think but people are kind of reaching with speculation about it.

As far as traditional relationships go where the man and woman have designated roles that are different, I think these are good in general. They've worked for thousands of years and they still work now. Not everyone likes it but that's their choice.

Seeing as almost everyone regardless of being a parent has career dreams they have yet to realize and likely never will.

It's hard to take this 'sob' story seriously, even if she wasn't using her children as an excuse, she would just have anther explication, wasn't good enough, an injured foot, was too busy, etc...

Being a parent is far most significant thing anyone can do in their life as it effect not only their own life in the most natural way possible but countless others beyond.

She may regret not being a Ballerina has lots of people regret not being sports stars, actors, politicians, lawyers, etc... But she won't regret her children at the end of the day.

I have nothing against women who want to be tradwives. It is their choice, I respect it and I fully support it if that is what they want.

But that woman is more than certain being abused. Her husband mentioned in the interview that she sometimes faints from exhaustion in her bed due to the amount of work she is doing every day taking care of everyone. She also wanted to finish the university she was on the last year but her husband didn't let her to and he insisted on getting married. She also didn't take epidural for all of her births but one.
He controls her in every possible way.

Completely unaware of Ballerina farm. But there are a couple of points I would make.

First is the multi-millionaire line is pretty loaded. A lot of farmers are land rich and if they sold up they would realize the land and equipment value of the farm but that doesn't reflect the income that the farm generates, and the operating costs can be pretty staggering.

The fairly snide implications may be very misleading.

The second point is in the farming district i was raised in, the farm wives couldn't be said to be exhausted all the time. They certainly worked constantly, just as the men did. I'm sure that children will exhaust every mother.

Nonsense. A tradwife works hard just like her husband. Equal effort. She's a very lucky woman to be able to stay at home with the kids, most wives don't have the option.

The ironic thing about this "trad wife" is that she is anything BUT a "trad wife". Instead of being at home, shutting up, cooking and cleaning, being available for her husband's sexual needs, and squirting out babies, she is making a shitload of money ___working___ by acting and "living" as a "trad wife".

If she was a real "trad wife", then she wouldn't be making any money at it and her husband would be bringing home all the income. And she'd shut up about it since her income likely exceeds his now and that will just upset his masculinity or some such horseshit.

Instead, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

Being a mom is a very demanding job anyone would find challenging, but it's respectful and chances are having kids accompany you to old age is not something most would regret.

On that note owning a business that generates millions is not something that can just readily be abandoned on a spontaneous trip to Greece.

I'm sure they are both working hard to keep the relationship going, unfortunately most are not born into generational wealth, so you shouldn't expect an easy life with the right suitor

For me, the best wife is one who can ensure the family's survival if something happens to her husband. This means she has a profession, experience, and the ability to earn money. If both decide that she stays home while the children are young, that's fine as long as her husband regularly funds her account. Additionally, she should continue to educate herself in her field and stay "in the loop."

I am not downplaying her situation, but I think the man you marry really matters. They dated for a month, got engaged the second month, and were married on the third month. Why? Her husband did not want to wait. He practically gave her no choice. I think she had a choice, but we don’t really know, anyways. That is their family business.

@itsmeirem  they both wanted to start with farm lifestyle , rich or poor, it’s wanted they wanted. everyone who are judging that he owns everything and she doesn’t. well maybe she is not like everyone else who wants to keep finance split as others.  we shouldn’t judge other. same in my family we don’t keep our finance separate. Instead hubby gives his income to me to manage because he trust my management.

I've never seen the show. The work is never done on a farm, and having 7 kids makes it a lot harder until they are old enough to help with the farm work. If she wanted to be lazy sometimes and not always exhausted, she shouldn't have had 7 kids and shouldn't be a farmer. She chose this life.
