In the USA, after 1885, the most common age of consent has increased from 10 to 12 to 16 to 18. Is that an improvement?

I consider it bad for different reasons. Not because I think that it shouldn't have been adjusted, not because I think having sex with minors should be ok. The part I find a tragedy is that we as a society are going backwards in how long it takes for people to be true adults. Its a societal flaw where people lack real world experience until way to late and I think that has much to do with the flawed education system we have.

If you compare that to the past without all the good medical care, constant threats from wild animals, a much simpler society, etc then it wouldn't have been remotely the same you'd have a high chance of being dead by 35.

So the worrying part is not that the age of consent got increased but that this trend doesn't seem to end. There's people where I genuinely wonder if at for example 22 they have reached the level of maturity for things like voting, consent, etc. I would not be surprised if it had to be raised yet again. But finishing education and being a true adult is progressing so late that girls have to rush before their biological clocks run out.

If I designed a dream society we'd all be experts in our field at 16 and we'd have a proper support structure looking after the ones who are to young to make rational decisions. In my eyes people could be in the work force at 13 gaining some actual real world experiences, but with older people as their peers/tutors to learn from and share knowledge.

So to emphasize, is it an improvement for current society? Absolutely and its possibly to low since there are plenty of immature 18 year olds. Is it a sign that society itself is improving? Not at all.

I don't see a point for the 18 thing since I am from England, 16 just makes sense.
And I do think the Romeo and Juliet laws are perfect and should just be everywhere for anyone around that age, until 18 and that would be the best case for everyone I think.

I'm inclined to believe that is true. However, as defined by scientists, humans have existed for 3 million years, and except for enforcement by their families, for more than 99.9% of human history, the age of consent either didn't exist or was considerably lower than in modern USA. Are we more right than 99.9% of human history?

There is no consent age in ancient times, even they get marry in very young age that time joint families exist and elders persons of family member manage all things. But now single families they can not manage all things things just like unmarried moms and their babies so girls in too much young age get pregnant and their all carrier get ruined.
So increasing consent age not a bad thing
