Should we raise the age of consent to 21?

So, where I live the age of consent is 16. Meaning 16 year old girls can legally have consented s*x with a 20 year old or 89 year old man if he's not an authority figure over her. And too add a 50 year old man can have s*x with a 17-18 year old girls and get her pregnant legally where I live and won't serve any jail time unless the man beat or forced her into s*x. That's how my laws work. A lot of people say that this is disgusting, and we need to raise the age of consent or have more protection for woman, and girls but most people accept it if it's a 16 year old boy with a 39 year old women. Do you think the age of consent should be raised?

Nah, I think 16 is a fine age of consent. It's our age of consent here in the UK... Here, kids can get sex ed from the age of 10 and from the age of 11, it's compulsory, that's up until 16 years old. So yeah, minimum of five years of learning about protection and diseases and stuff like that, I think that at 16, they're equipped to know how to keep themselves safe. I mean, after five years of learning about it, if you haven't gotten it by that point, you're probably never gonna gt it :P I dunno, I just felt totally prepared to have sex at that age and I don't think that waiting a couple of extra years would have changed anything for me, like I haven't really matured all that much from 16 to 21, I think I did all my maturing from 11 to 15 :P

Where I live it used to be 14 when I was growing up. Now it's 16. There's a near age exception for under 16s. There's also a law against 16-17 with older figures of authority. (Ie their teachers or doctors).

I don't have a strong opinion between 14-16 but I think 18 is nuts. A majority of 18 year old girls are already sexually active. I don't see compelling arguments why a 17 year old should be able to sleep with a 17 year old but not a 25 year old. Why don't they have the legal right?

Age of consent laws are that low because people in school, say a freshman could date a senior. come that next year it's now illegal for them to have sex. These laws are in place that low mostly to decriminalize those situations.

Although many places have a 40-60 month age difference maximum for minors to prevent 40 year olds from having sex with 17 year olds

Except that would be unrealistic and cause more problems. The only reason the age is that low is because puberty makes humans horny as fuck. Besides it's with consent. Anything outside of that is rape. Also it's for 16-17 if you're under 18 in my state at least.

I don't think that is true. Even though the age of consent might be 16, the guy/woman have to be within a certain age bracket (4 years I believe) or else it would be consider rape. The law varies from state to state and country

That's not really how it works.
Exceptions mostly apply when people are YOUNGER than the age of consent, not to those who are older.

So for example in Minnesota, a 13 year old can legally have sex with people who are up to 17 even though they are below the age of consent.

Age of Consent is *meant* for having sex with older people, it would be confusing and counter productive if there would be further exceptions in the upper age difference.
