What do you think of the new billionaire trend of not giving your kids an inheritance?

I hear many rich children end up addicted to drugs or engaging in illegal behaviours because they are bored and do not get attention from busy parents and have unreasonable expectations about their lives. A lot of them become mentally ill or suicidal.

The bible says too much luxury doubles your poverty, which might be mental or medical anguish and not financial poverty. That is why if I’m rich, I will avoid eating too many flavourful foods. A kale salad is healthier than some lobster and shrimp pasta.

My parents disinherited me because I’m independent and I don’t depend on them financially. They need their children’s dependence for control and manipulation. Some parents use inheritance as a dangling carrot to allow for their continued abuse. Id rather be free and poor than enslaved and rich.

That's stupid. All my money belongs to my children and grandchildren. There are other ways to prevent kids from ruining their lives but I will not deprive them of their inheritance.

Misleading. By the time they snuff it they've already helped their kids to be rich anyway. I also suspect the money doesn't really leave the family and its a way around taxes.

If I were that rich, I'd pay for my son's college and give one hundred grand for his college graduation in case he wants to go to grad school or needs a down payment for a house, but that's it.

He needs to earn his own way in life.

I love it. All that freed up wealth and hoarding of assets. Their kids are almost certainly terrible capitalists and stewards of said capital to begin with. They were set up for failure by being born from success. A story old as time

I hadn’t heard of it. That’s an interesting choice. I can see not wanting them to be spoiled but I would also want them to be taken care of if I had the means to do so.
