From Senator Elizabeth Warren:
Imagine you’re standing in the frozen food aisle, staring at a pint of ice cream. The price tag isn’t printed on paper or a shelf sticker like usual—now it’s a digital display. With a camera pointed right at you.
It’s now MUCH more convenient for the store to change the price—how often do they take advantage of that? Does the price surge on a hot day? By how much?
If you pick up a pint even though the price has shot up, does the facial recognition software store your demographic data and use it to estimate how willing different customers are to pay certain prices?
.@Bob_Casey (Senator D-PA) and I are pressing for answers as digital price tag technology continues to take off. Big grocery chains are already boosting profits by squeezing consumers. I’m going to stay on this.
As inflation fury lingers, politicians join customers in pushing companies to cut prices
Companies like Kroger, Walmart and McDonald’s are getting caught in the political messaging around inflation ahead of the 2024 election.

Why do Democrats have such trouble understanding the costs of overcharging customers in a competitive economy?
Kroger cannot get away with overcharging their customers or they would lose the same to Aldi, and countless others. Dito Walmart.
The prices as such only go up together if it is in fact something they have in common that is becoming more expensive such as a evermore costly regulations or worthless currency.
Ummm... Yes? Among many other reasons for price hikes. I have no clue how that addresses my question or what democrats have to do with it
To address your question is it perfectly legal in many states to discriminate in pricing on the account of race, or simply because you don't like someone. John Stossel proved that with a racist bake-sale.
That said their systems don't work well enough to do that, instead they might give you a discount card if they wanted to do that.
Legal? Based on race? Ok sparky!
