“Plethora”….. it’s like the standard “big word” you get taught by your middle school English teacher so you don’t have to keep saying “a lot of” when writing, but it irritates the hell out of me when people use it verbally, like they’re not that smart but they’re trying way too hard to convince you that they are. I’m all for an expansive vocabulary, but something about the basic-ness of “plethora” masquerading as an SAT word just makes me roll my eyes a bit.

That's so weird because here we say "East", "Far East", or "Orient". I never liked that the term "Eastern" reffers to any Orthodox country. Some people consider all of the Americas as "the West", but usually those terms were more cultural, though sometimes they use them geographically.

Yeah, those countries would never be considered "West" in America. I agree about British culture being the closest to ours, but it's still different in many ways.

@KostasKouvalis In France Eastern mean all Ex union Soviet countries and is used as a ways to say poor country that people wouldn't like to go there, all Ex soviet country have extremely bad rep in France they're seen as shithole because people see those countries as poor countries. Men are seen as alcoholic, women as prostitute and gold digger and the country as poor and ugly (soviet architecture mainly the only things they know is the grey apartment), doesn't help that Polish immigrant in France hate on Poland all the time, I had a Bosnian teacher that tried to say to the student Poland was a central European countries but everyone said it was a Eastern one and it didn't change their view if them not liking those countries.
Romania is seen as the worst Eastern European countries people in France believe they're all stealer and gypsie if you ask a French person who they would never date it's always Indian, Asian and Romanian. (and quite a few Eastern European with the young population because of the whole prostitue / gold digger reputation, Asian women have the same rep plus the weird culture things).

West in France is every country that are our ally (so Eastern European countries, Asian countries that are our allies, etc... We never use the word Eastern Europe or any groups like that we just say the country name because every country are different we don't groups them as one similar culture for example Ukraine and Russia are nothing alike so we don't groups them neither do we groups Asian country etc... Ther's the groups name for the geography things but not for the cultural things which I find frustrating with the terms West of American is just a utter nonsense as is it not a regional / geography stuff but a weird cultural one that make nosense to us. When we talk about America we say either America or the Anglo sphere but never do we use "West" for it.

Yes so is it so weird American groups France, Sweden, Italy with them culture while we're nothing alike. They also talk about Western men / women while in France we just say French men / women or Swedish men / women but never groups all of them in the same boat as American do, why do they feel the need to use Western women / men and groups us with them while we'r nothing alike we do not even date in France only American date.

Romanians and Albanians always had the worst reputation in Europe. Romanians hate when you associate their country with gypsies. There's a large Romanian community in my town. A lot of them are rude, racist, nationalistic and cheap. There were like 20 Romanians in my town that recently got arrested for running ATM scams. There were even young girls. When my dad was in refugee camp in Austria, Romanians and Albanians were always getting arrested for theft. The US stopped taking them for immigration fie while because of it.

It was the same here. 20 years ago, some guy didn't win a talent show because he was gay, now it's the other way around. Being called "gay" was seen as an emasculating insult. So there was homophobia, but for the most part they didn't bother anyone. Even giving them marriage rights didn't really bother anyone, until they started flaunting it and demanding special treatment. People just mainly had a problem with them adopting kids.

All the Poles I know in France grew up in France and never went to Poland or just during the summer and they usually come from the countryside lost with nothing so they hate it especially since in the 2000s they weren't computer everywhere in France so I can't imagine the situation in the countryside of Poland.
Same with Alegrian they say their country is the best but every summer they hate going to their country who they talk "Le Bled" since it's shitty, nothing to do, poor, too hot and they consider people there unclassy just like how French city people consider the countryside people as dirty and unclassy. They don't look like central Asian for sure, they just look like Turks, most have fair skin but they do not have the same face features as European.

Turkey have been part of NATO since 1952 and it been since the 80s they want to enter EU, they're European allies (even if they don't always see face to face) in France they're considered as being part of the western world. Taiwan, Singapore, multiple African countries are also part of the West according to French definition.
