1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. @Simslover92 I have several, that various morons have used and they seem to have stuck in the lexicon. "Functionality" - as in "more functionality" It has more functions. Yes?
"Physicality" Some half-wit on one of the Sports Networks ESPN used the 'word"? to describe some basketball player as a stronger- more agile player. Physicality"? WTF?
While working in a machine shop, reviewing various, shop-floor manufacturing drawings, some idiot sales guy brought me a print, and told me, 'TO MY FACE, "We're just changing the "Material" to Stainless Steel, and keeping the same 'Dimensionality" I just sat there and looked at the idiot, who was simply trying to sound like a 'techie' and said to him, "Change to Stainless Steel, and maintain the same dimensions on the part" ?
Now, we have three "new words' to add so our vocabulary: Functionality, Physicality, and 'dimensionality"

Baby daddy trivializes the casualness with which young people have children out of wedlock and condemn them to a life with only - at best - one parent.

6.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. "Newbie" or however you want to spell it. To me it's baby talk that adds nothing to the language. We already had "novice", "newcomer", and "beginner". It seems to be fading. I'm happy about that.
I don't hate all new words -- many of them are useful. "Situationship" makes sense to me. I like slang like "sus" -- I think it will stay. Not all slang does: "tubular", "history", "toast" among others are all toast.10 Reply- 8.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
5 moBugs me, too!! There is no such word!!
"Unalived" is another one that really pisses me off!!
People starting nearly every sentence with the word, "So" or, "I mean...". How can you MEAN something when you haven't said anything, yet?
"So" comes AFTER you've already told somebody something, like you're continuing what you were talking about or had to go in a different direction for a moment and then came back to your main story line. You DON'T just START UP with, "So...".
"How's your mother doing today?"
"So, she's doing better, thank you."
I'm sure there's a number of others, I just don't recall them off the top of my head.17 Reply- 5 mo
Just thought of a couple! People using "woman" when they mean "women" and vice versa.
Also, people today calling records, "vinyls". In the first place, the plural of, "vinyl" is still, "vinyl". Secondly, we don't call CD's, "plastics" or, "foils", do we?
"Good to go" always bugs me, too but, that's more from a harrowing personal experience I had back in the `80's than so much for over-use but, it DOES get over-used a tad.
"Back in THE day"! WHICH DAY? Am I just supposed to KNOW which day you're referring to?
"Like" is also incredibly over-used. Even the people in "the valley" that started doing that 40 years ago don't do it anymore, as far as I know!
I also don't like that EVERYTHING today is reduced to an acronym and we're all just supposed to know what each and every one of them stand for!! I suspect that, before long, entire sentences will be reduced to that and people will use just one acronym to say a full sentence! Then, people will think THOSE are too long reduce each of THOSE to an acronym and, before long, we'll be back to speaking in grunts and groans, again!!! Kinda like how, if a dolphin makes a few clicks and squeaks, that's the Gettysburg Address!!
People using "of" instead oof "have"! It's bad enough that they just never seemed to learn that "should HAVE" is shortened to "should've"! So, they say, "should of". How does one "of"? They never explain that part!! But, to have them actually write it out, "I should of taken that English class in college!!"
Baby daddy / baby momma. It sounds like someone's talking about a baby that had a baby!! If black people have everything so bad, why is if that every time they come up with some new terminology, white people HAVE to copy them? That's where, "back in THE day" comes from! - 5 mo
And, while I'm in the ballpark, "nigga"! I was at a bus stop yesterday when I heard two black guys shake or slap hands and one said, "My nigga.". They would've both shot me if I went up to them and asked if either would like to be my nigga. So, you CAN'T tell me that, "nigga" is better or different from, "n**"!! And, how is my spelling it differently, like if I dropped the number 4 between the 2 g's, how does that take the sting away from that word when you already KNOW what it means without the 4?
https://youtu.be/X6WX3awlAYI?si=bjSNUhTa25fXHcJf
Why can't people just SAY the word, "billion"? They ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS HAVE to follow it with, "That's billion with a B". DUUUUUHHHHH, NO FUCKING SHIT, SHERLOCK!!! I'm SOOOO GLAD you told me!!! All these years, I've been spelling it with Q!! They NEVER say, "That's million with an M." or, "That's trillion with a TR."!! Or, "That's hundred, with an H."
"The fuck?" That's a question? "WHAT the fuck?", I can understand! But, "The fuck?" makes no sense at all!!
"Hating on"! How do you hate ON something? More ebonics!! If you're too fucking lazy to say, "The baby's father", "What the fuck?" or "Back in the `60's..", why would you ADD a word to a phrase that doesn't need one?
There's another one in my head, I just can't make it come to my mouth or fingers! - 5 mo
Phrases like, "I'm not understanding" instead of, "I don't understand". I'm loving that.", instead of, "I love that."
People that feel they have to repeat, "is" when trying to explain something by starting with, "The thing is...". Quite often, they'll say, "The thing is is, ...". You've already said, "is" once! You don't NEED to repeat it!! I knew a guy I used to work with that'd actually say, "The thing is is is...".
The over-use of the word, "actually". My nephew used to start nearly every sentence with it. I haven't seen him or heard from in almost 10 years (thank Buddha!!) so, I have no idea if he still does. Last I heard, the local paper said he was getting arrested for graffiti. He was nearly 30 years old, at the time!
People using the term, "shit ton". Does a ton of shit weigh any more or less than a ton of anything else? The correct usage would either just be, "a ton" (or, "a ton of that shit") or, "a shitload".
Also, the term, "a tad bit". A tad IS a bit! So, saying "tad bit" is redundant. "A tiny bit" would be the correct usage. Even, "A tiny tad" or just, "a tad".
People that'll refer to someone twice in a row. "My friend, Bill, he went for a walk." You've already mentioned that you were talking about Bill, you don't have to add, "he", we already know who you're referring to. You SHOULD say, "My friend, Bill went for a walk." Or, if you were already talking about Bill in a previous sentence, "He went for a walk.".
"Suffice it to say". The word, "suffice" is just a fancier version of the word, "enough". they both mean the same thing. Would you say, "enough it to say"? No, you'd say, "enough to say". Also, "suffice" is not a verb so, you can't suffice anything. Therefore, you can't (or shouldn't) say, "suffice it to say". "Suffice to say" will suffice! - 5 mo
"He's going to disappear it." You can't "disappear" ANYTHING! The correct word is, "vanish". Either, "He will vanish it." or, "He will make it vanish." He CAN, "cause it to disappear" or "make it disappear" but, he can't "disappear" something.
- 5 mo
"Your guys's". How about just, "your"? Or, "What do you guys think?"
- 5 mo
Do you realize that the things you are complaining are related to knowledge of English grammar and not everyone has English as first language so we are allowed to do some mistakes
- 5 mo
@Bárbara1402 Absolutely but I'm talking about Americans, mostly adults, that SHOULD know better by now!
My ex-fiance was from India and didn't come here until she was 18. I was never a slouch in spelling but even she corrected me 3 or 4 times in the 10 years we were together.

u 5 moHonestly, I hate most of the stupid new half-words and grunts I hear from most of the two generations after me.
I hate it when people say "like" every other word.
I couldn't care less whether "6-7" is an occult curse, something covertly sexual, or just a dumb meaningless filler word. I never want to hear it again!
20 Reply 4.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. "If you love something, let it go". No, if you love someone or something, chase it. Giving up and letting her go doesn't show love, it shows the exact opposite by showing you don't love them enough to give a damn.
If a girl ever pulls that, I'll retort with "If you loved me, you'd stay and fix things, not run, the second it's not all bushes and daisies"🙄11 Reply- 5 mo

I like calling a cat a cat. Not dressing things up to sound more sophisticated or artsy than they are
If we’re fucking then just say we’re fucking, it doesn’t need another label
And there’s plenty of other phrases out there that do the same thing: embellish a raw truth.

That thought did occur to me. Especially because i have a deeper voice than most. More often than not, i’m referring to my union brothers when using the word. Occasionally though, i will apply it to a close friend or relative.
