They generally don't. They're just smart enough to realize that work is the best way to become rich, and while the odds of them doing so may not be good, they're better than the NO chance they'd have under a scheme of universal welfare. It's not a choice between your well-being and theirs; it's between "mostly theirs" and "entirely theirs".

The system ISN'T rigged, and that's the core difference; it's actually POSSIBLE to move up the ladder. They crave the status and power that comes from wealth, and making it difficult to obtain ensures only those willing to work for it get it. Would you hand it out to anyone who asked, knowing the kind of people who seek power for its own sake? Or would you rather go back to the old way of doing things, where nobody gets power, since it's all invested in whoever has it already? Nearly every revolution in human history has been about changing that.

Would you prefer a fourth option? Then suggest it- but understand that there are a hell of lot of options that've already been suggested- and every other one has failed miserably. Conservatives aren't inherently stupid people; just cautious. Study your history, and you'll learn just how easily a civilization can be destroyed by well-intentioned morons who think they can change human nature.

Listen many policies on both sides are bad. They do horrible things to the country but people don't want to see it. They are stuck in confirmation bias, and get caught up on labels rather than substance.

I don’t think they do care more for the wealthy than they do for themselves! I think that working class people hope that with enough hard work and effort, that they too will someday become wealthy, or at the least upper-middle class. Also, many good and decent people can see injustice occurring in other classes, whether those people are in a higher OR a lower socioeconomic class. When somebody desires to be wealthy, they don’t want to be taxed punitively if, or whenever they too become wealthy.

Hey if you think that someone working hard, and having a dream to maybe open their own business, and they don’t want to have more than a third of their income taken in taxes, when or if they do, is backwards… well, that’s your opinion, and you are welcome to it. They aspire to be wealthy, even if they don’t make it, what is so wrong with people seeing injustice within the government, and wanting to fix it, even if that injustice does not affect them directly right now. It’s no different to white people wanting to solve racial injustice. You don’t actually have to be IN a given class to see injustice within that class.

So thanks again for conceding the argument. However, despite your acknowledgment of my winning the debate, you still failed to answer the question, which was: when you file your taxes, do you deduct things like your charitable donations, and the interest on your mortgage, or are you stupid and just file a 1040-EZ? I’m asking because you either thought my question required an ad hominem attack, or you are acknowledging that you too use these so-called “loopholes” that are completely legal under US tax law, because if they were not legal, they would be called tax evasion, not loopholes!

Because us working class conservatives realise all riches come from the work we do. You wanna limit how much of a piece the rich take, by all means please do. But the left and progressive seems to think we can all somehow become rich by not working and that's just a grand illusion. If anything we need to work more in order for everyone to live decent lives, we just need to work with the right things.
