We humans were not made to live without God or some spiritual believe system. People don't realize how much the lack of this spirituality effects them as people. Because it is hard to understand yourself at such a deep level as where their spirit was mean to work.
The result is we often become depressed or feel empty because we are missing that part of life our brains were designed for.
That design is indeed a thing that was a major advantage for we humans over other species as it provided us with a critical aspect of our common set of bonds and working together.
