If you were to balance all the pros and cons on a scale, what side would the scale lean too?
776 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Like everything else in this world it has good qualities and bad qualities
When I was 8 years old I wish I would have had the internet because you have the whole world in your hands you can become a genius.
At the same time it has bad things because of all the things that you hear that are not true
We get information 10 times faster where before if something happened on the East Coast I'm on the west coast I wouldn't even know about it now everything is glamorized or just shut down same with our newscasters our news media they put up what they want to put up and it used to be true nowadays it's all fake so our news media has become more or less like our internet they don't care what they say or do there is no more becoming number one and being the first one with the story and being right now they just put up anything they want so if you weigh them both out
It would probably be better if we didn't have it
And it would probably be better if we had our news media the way it used to be 34 years ago where everybody was fighting to become number one and doing the best possible job that they could do because that's the past I don't know if I'll ever see that again10 Reply

If we're talking about specifically for society? It's terrible. And that's not the fault of the internet itself. The fault lies with society and how they choose to use it. The internet gives you all of mankind's collective knowledge at your fingertips, as well as near-instant communication globally. It's an incredibly powerful tool that can be used to accomplish great things, make your life much easier, and even empower any one of us to get the education and tools we need to succeed at most anything we want. But we choose to use it for social media, brain rot memes, and weird conspiracy theories.
We, as a species, just weren't ready for it.

1 yWhat are they call? iPad babies or something like that? I think we’re in a generation where everyone is glued to their phones because of the internet. The ability to share information happens faster than a blink of an eye. I don’t think it’s the internet exactly, I think it’s how we as a society have become so dependent on it for making our lives easier. Video surveillance, getting YouTube to babysit your children… The internet isn’t failing us as a society, we are failing our selves by our dependence to it.

I hate when parents give their kids tablets and stuff, especially very young ones. I'm glad my close sister doesn't do that with her baby son like all of my other sisters do with their kids. I've read articles that state that it isn't good to do that with little kids. I forget what it does to their brain though, I know one is it causes sleeping issues (or less sleep time at least). But kids that young should be playing with toys & running around outside, with parental supervision of course.

"Glued" is right!
Just yesterday i was looking at avocadoes, and in the same moment boom then 2 more consecutively boom boom.
3 ladies looking at their phones, typing watsap or telegram, all bumped into me from 3 sides
One even complained "why did you stop?" She hadn't seen my looking at the avocados!

1 yIt can be bad for mental health if you're on it too much and don't go outside. Anything else could be that people might accidentally find something embarrassing, but that's about it. For me it's helped me find events that I can go to in person and get out of the house a little more.

1 yInternet is not an issue, at all.
It cannot be a problem when selecting information is taught and understood, when understanding how information can be manipulated, then internet can only be a blessing. Because Internet delivers a huge amount of outstandingly important information.13 Reply- 1 y

Fair point 🤔
Depending on what we consider better for society Internet as a way of connect has made significant changes to the society sometimes good and sometimes bad Internet has made access to information very easy and less time consuming and at a time of click reducing time used be students and researchers to look for information on the other hand Internet has made people so leasy and consume a lot of time on social media without any real value instead of studying or reading books for example
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Eh it depends on what you choose to see. If you take some time to set some restrictions on what you consume, you will mostly see better aspects of it.

5.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It's the collection of all of human knowledge in your back pocket. More knowledge then the great library of Alexandria with redundancy. It's honestly the greatest tool humanity has ever built.
With great power comes greater responsibility so there's that to take into account. To be honest i think we are still in the growing pains of such a responsibility. To endlessly question our relationship with this tool is important but to abandoned it is the end of humanity.

1 yWorse. And I say that as someone who has made a career working on the internet.
The technology in itself isn’t “bad” of “evil”. Even the inventors of social media and dating apps never imagined the detrimental impacts on society (although onlyfans is a different story in my opinion).
But what matters is what people DO with the technology that’s the problem.

1 yOverall, the Internet is better, supporting global interaction, bringing us closer together, and making information readily available. But it does enable some people to do bad things, which they wouldn't do if there was no Internet.

@strateguy632 as I said, poison itself isn't bad, but can be USED in definitely wrong way. And it's a choice

1 yInternet by itself is actually beneficial. It helps connect with people and gather information conveniently. However, it's how people use it being the issue. Our society may not yet be matured enough to use the internet and the fact that people blame the internet which is considered an inanimate object instead of blaming themselves basically proves my point. What people need to teach is self discipline instead of demonizing the internet.
