You can be nice with an edge. Be nice and friendly until you figure out that someone is trying to take advantage of you. Then you put your foot down and say no.

For example when you notice a pattern of someone never doing shit for you beyond the bare minimum at most but always asking or even expecting you to bend over ass backwards for them that's when it's time to put your foot down. But if you don't notice any of that with them and they reciprocate your efforts then you can stay nice to them.

Magnanimity is a sign of weakness because people think if you are going out of your way to please them then you have an ulterior motive but that's not always the case. Altruism is important and we shouldn't stop being kind because of what others think of us 🙏💖.
