Why do people ignore the numbers?

I'll be the first to admit that the pandemic didn't do Trump any favors regarding the economy. Yet it just increased the way the country was trending already. We had a surplus under Clinton, in 8 years we had a deficit. We had a booming growing economy under Obama, in 3 years (before the pandemic reached our shores) Trump had ballooned our national debt beyond what any other president has done and began to destroy the economy that had been growing under Obama. We see this time and time again; the fiscal responsibility party is the worst at managing our economy. You can just see the numbers and see that under Democrats the economy is always better.

Trump created the best economy since WW2 until it needed to be shut down, The strong economy was the main reason that once the economy was opened up again it made a historic "V" shaped economy. Unemployment was very low and real wages grew over all demographics. Yes the deficit had grown but 3 trillion dollars was spent on the Covid pandemic. The stock market reached record highs and personally my retirement account had doubled in 4 years despite a Covid pullback. It nave performed so well in the 30 years that I had it.
As soon as Biden took office gas prices jumped and soon the prices of everything else ballooned. We had the first recession in recent memory despite democrats changing the definition of recession. Personally my retirement account lost 20% and it took years before it returned to pre Biden levels. The problem with that is that it will only be able to purchase 80% of what it could buy when Trump was president.

Yet currently, by all metrics we are doing better than we were entering 2017 and have been seeing growth for over a year.

Best shortly after he entered, holdover from Obama policies. Not Great Depression bad when he left, but definitely worse, and COVID-19 didn't start the downturn.

When Trump was president gas was 2 bucks a gallon, something I never thought I would see again. I got a tax cut which is nothing I ever saw since i started working at 17. Employment was at an all time high and wages rose across all demographics. Inflation was 1.4% . Yes, the debt rose but Trump spent 3 trillion dollars keeping the country afloat when the economy had to be shut down. There was a lot of waste and fraud with that 3 trillion dollars that should not have happened but most happened under the Biden administration.

That's the price for being uninformed and uneducated, on top of being gullible to blindly believe cliché GOP rhetoric ("Republicans are better for the economy, rah rah!").

They don't read a newspaper, so they don't have a general overview of the economy. They don't know how to find that data, to be in an informed discussion. And lastly, if you present them with the actual numbers, they don't believe them and run away (offline) or block you (online).

The answer is easy. People want things to be a certain way, and they will ignore anything that does not agree with what they want. Once they trash the real numbers, they can make up their own.

I'm not saying it had no effect on the economy. It had a large effect. However, the downtrend had already started by 2020.

Do you want the numbers? I have them, of course they're from the CBO which is the government which MAGA doesn't trust. So, if you want numbers from your echo chamber, I can't help you. I trust the CBO, because that's their job. I trust agencies who look at these things as all of or part of thier job, more than someone or a group doing it without it being a part of their essential job.
