It effects the world markets, interest rates thereabouts in the developing world. For example, if America decides to actually do something about the lives being lost so Apple and Samsung, etc can get minerals to make phine batteries then that will effect what happens in Congo. Then that will have another effect. America is a behemoth and what happens there affects every country.
