This may be a stupid question, but if Kamala were to finish Biden's term, would Trump still be President come January 20?

The Dems are legit talking about having Kamala finish the remainder of Biden's term, with Liz Cheney as her Vice President. As far as I know, there has never been a time in our history where the vice president took over from the sitting president, after the next president had already been elected. And I remember one of my teachers saying the vice president taking over is only temporary, and that they're supposed to have an election. And I also remember one of them saying that LBJ served more than the allotted term limit because he finished JFK's term, then served 2 more of his own terms.

But basically my question is, if Kamala were to finish the remainder of Biden's term, would Trump still be president since he was already elected, or would we have a new election, OR would Kamala just be sworn in and serve for 4 years?

She would just finish the term and January 20 is still inauguration day. This happens all the time with senate and the house with special election then a few months is the normal election.

So i think the newer term limits in the is if vp becomes president and it is less then 2 years that vp is still eligible for 2 terms as president if elected to so a total of 9ish years. If the vp becomes president for over 2 years that counts against them as the first term so eligible for 1 more.

Don't piss on someone head and call it rain. The glory is actually winning the election. You just change the bucket list to WIN election for first women. It's as condescending as it sounds.

Also nothing happens on their own in this amount of time. It's just a stop gap of chain of command issues.

Which is surprising the house and senate seats don't have a similar thing going on. Let's say January 6th killed half of congress and we had to wait for half the country special elections to go through before having a "functional" maybe just staffed government. I think that's a big undertone for the foreseeable future.

If Biden stepped down right now like he probably should, kamala would be sworn in as the President to take his place the way Truman and Nixon were but Trump would still be President by January no matter what, unless he has a heart attack or is assassinated then Vance would be President.
