Depends on what they say. A lot of people have mentioned to my fiancée, sister, and parents what they truly think about me. They don't say it to my face, but they do compliment me to others. My fiancée's mother has never told me that I am the best thing to come into her daughter's life. She's told her daughter that though. Also, numerous adults have told my parents good things about me. I don't think it's cowardly, I think it's just a way to praise someone without making it weird by doing it to their face.
