The Maori people are protesting the British colonists who tried to rip them off than ever before.

Basically there is a bill signed 200 years ago, declaring the Maori can keep their land, but the British crown governs the country. Now there was a bill proposed which would have changed this and ripped the Maori off. Which they understandably didn't liked.
