I've noticed for one thing a lot of secular people celebrate Christmas but yet you don't hear of many people celebrating Hanukkah outside of the Jewish community. I mean I think it would be fun to at least celebrate it once just to see what it's really like to play dreidel and eat Latkes just like many people eat Christmas cookies and decorate Christmas trees. Is haunnakah more sacred than Christmas?
You know name. Anything that does get the respect that it should. That's just how we are. You know but Hanukkah religion as a whole. You know we need to cut all this different branches out like my God is better than your god and there's only one true God and everybody. Every religion around the world matter if you Hindu Buddhism, whatever Christian they're all worshiping the same God and these religious leaders notice. But yet they keep this this division going. You know I guess it's control. It's why you never elevate another human above you cuz it goes to their head. More people don't realize is God. Jesus appeared to people around the world in the way that day can understand him know who he is so they worship him in the way that they feel is the highest that they can worship him in their own way. I mean we all have different ways of doing things taking comfort. I don't know why it's so hard that we just can't respect each other's way each other's culture try to understand each other better instead of saying he's doing it wrong. He's a pagan or he's a diss and that that's not right. That's the way they take comfort. You know we take comfort hour who the hell says always the right way. We just need to respect each other around this world more and it all starts with our fearless leaders. So be careful who you vote for when she was the right person lol. And not some maniac who wants to blow up the world. We have to stop this division amongst us and start working as one people. One race in this world because it's the only home we have so we have to take care of it. It's all of our responsibility to care for this world so that those coming up behind us can enjoy it as we have so many fair it's not. Leave this a wasteland polluted toxic for the next generation to have to deal with. They should be able to enjoy this world as we have just saying we all have a responsibility to care for this world cuz it took care of us

+1 yShort answer- Christmas is simpler, had a wider historical spread, has multiple traditions mixed into it nowadays and was/is intensely commercialized.
Long answer- Contributing factors are indeed the commercialization of Christmas, as well as the historical wider spread of christianity around the world, mixing germanic yule traditions into the celebration and the simplicity of all and any amount of gifts on one day instead of several little gifts across several days with lighting a certain amount of candles across those days.

+1 yA lot of people view Judaism and Jewish behaviour as a genealogically based tradition so celebrating it, seems more culturally outlandish than celebrating Christmas which does not demand any preliminary habits to celebrate it with.

You're right.
+1 yBecause is not as popular as Christmas. Christmas is celebrated around the world while Haunnaka is only celebrated by Jews. Where I grew up I never saw any Jews. They live either in Israel or along with their communities.

Christmas is a Christian/pagan tradition so yes, there are probably more of those than Jews.

Because it's a tradition invented by an insular, Eastern European culture that refuses to assimilate into the cultures where they live.
Their children were jealous of everyone else having fun and receiving presents, so they had to make an excuse to celebrate on their own. On that note, they did Christians one better celebrate for eight days instead of one.
But who else prefers latkes and matzo over western treats? And who wants to speak Hebrew and celebrate a Judean myth about a magic lamp?
Besides, Jews are a small minority, despite their privileged status.00 Reply
+1 yMy young cousins were raised Jewish. I wish I was invited to Hanukkah stuff, but it’d be weird now because my older cousin is now divorced from their Jewish mom. I want to holler at some of that sufganiyah, they look like they’re basically jelly donuts, hahaha

Oh, and to answer the question, Christmas became commercialized, Hanukkah never did. Fundamentalist Christians even dispute December 25th being Jesus’ actual birthday. Hanukkah seems more tied to it’s true meaning, so it feels invasive to infiltrate it. But I just look at like “I’d go to a Hanukkah party, but not a Hanukkah service at a synagogue…but you’d probably say the same with Jews with Christmas parties and Christmas church services, so…🤷♂️“

+1 yChristmas is more commercialized and there are more Christians in the USA than Jews , Jewish people are more strict with their religion and stay in their tight communities

+1 yChristmas has been converted into the last chance to save a failing business. Some businesses rely on Christmas spending to put the books into black ink. Little thought is put into the reason for the celebration.
I used to think that was a bad thing. But, after working in the medical examiners office, I can tell you that people get depressed when sunlight diminishes. They end up seeking companionship in bars or clubs. Listen to Billy Joel's "Piano Man". There is more truth to it than appears on the surface.

+1 yIt's sad to say that most people hate Jews but we've seen this happen recently. There is no reason to hate an average Jewish person who has done nothing to you. People are so evil.
10 ReplyIt's a religious cultural thing. Secular people of a Jewish background don't celebrate Christmas just like Secular people of a Christian background don't celebrate Hanukkah. Just not part of their culture.
00 ReplyHanukkah is actually not one of the "important" Jewish holidays. I think that in the US the proximity to Christmas makes Jewish people in the US give more attention to it.

+1 yThere are just a lot less Jews than Christians, simple as that.

No, it's not as simple as that. There are a ton of Muslims too and we don't celebrate their events.

@Chandelier8 historically in the West there haven't been many Muslims. Plus it's easier to make a gift giving a popular thing than fasting for a month.

There are plenty of cities with high Jewish populations.
+1 yWhat even is it? Is it the tradition of a white lady not being upset about her black husband having more side chicks than any modern washed rapper?
