Why did she use 'haha' in her reply?

I texted a female friend of mine (she's already attached but is pretty close to me) that I thought she was the most beautiful girl in the room in a picture, and she replied 'haha thanks! XD'. What does that mean? It seems strange to me as I wasn't telling a joke and it wasn't meant to be funny. Is she just trying to be friendly? I'm pretty sure she knows I like her.

Ha Hah! Was an old way of saying 'I've found you, I've found it!'

In text it evolved to Haha, to mean I've found laughter. That evolved to Lol and Lmao.

Personally I still prefer Haha though I will use Lmao and Lol depending on who I'm talking to.

If a girl 'feels' you or the compliment she will usually not say thanks - it's a rather flippant response that people wanting attention will often give. They do not intend to go deeper into the conversation.

A woman 'feeling' you will tell you that you made her blush or will respond warmly. A thanks is actually quite a cold response when you've sent a warm probe.

XD < that face usually means Lol I've been told.

So all in all, not a good response from that girl. She doesn't 'feel' you from what you've said but it depends on the previous conversation and texts and where it went after that.

It's okay! It is completely normal for someone to use haha in a text. I know numerous amounts of people who have done it when there wasn't even a joke, myself included. Don't look too deep into it and find yourself looking for meaning in every word. She just wants to be friendly. I hope everything works out between you two.!

She was made uncomfortable in one of the following ways: 1. She didn't think the compliment was genuine and felt bad so she was just laughing it off. 2. She did think the compliment was genuine but she doesn't have feelings for you and is a little weirded out so she just laughed it off.

Maybe if you complimented her or something she wasn't sure how to take it, not sure if you're being honest etc.. maybe it's a sarcastic laugh... or she's just being friendly
