Ukraine wants to join NATO during a military conflict, as a NATO member I would propose the following solution. Ukraine should firmly assume the borders it controls, and with these it joins NATO. BUT ! unofficially! with those it does not control.
NATO would have the possibility to apply Article 5 on the territory controlled by Ukraine, but on the front line ONLY Ukraine would fight with the alliance's guarantee that it would have no more territory to lose.
If NATO troops do not enter into direct conflict with Russia and only the Ukrainian army fights, I believe this would lead to a greater and safer advance for the Ukrainian forces, as they could also use the army near Moldova/Transnistria.

Althou its agreed they can join if they make peace with Russia. Ultimately they can't join NATO directly but would have to first secure a defense pack with a NATO member able to take on Russia.

Which is what they should have done in the first place, hence why they could simply agree to Russia's imperial terms until such pack could be secured before stabbing them in the back later.

NATO articles stipulate that a state can join the alliance as long as it has no territorial problems. We use this clause to recognize controlled territories.
And after accession, Ukraine continues the campaign to recover territories based on NATO rules.
If a NATO state attacks a non-NATO state, that aggressor member does not benefit from the support of the allies. Thus, Ukraine can plan an offensive with the support of countries such as South Korea, Japan, Australia and other countries that may support the cause of Ukraine, I believe that they would take small but sure steps to recapture the stolen territories.

Explain to me why any NATO member would compel themselves and other NATO countries to enter an active war. It makes no sense at all. If an individual state wishes to assist Ukraine, they can do so as a sovereign nation and can also withdraw that support without violating a treaty.

Please read the proposed plan and previous comments very carefully.
Romania did something similar in WW1, but NATO's situation is not very different.
1. Ukraine concludes a peace agreement by which it recognizes its borders that it controls with Russia.
2. Ukraine immediately joins NATO
3. Ukraine terminates the peace agreement and restarts the campaign on its own with help from outside the alliance so as not to draw NATO into the war and Ukraine would have absolutely nothing to lose, but only to gain.

It’s impractical because a country active in a war can hardly join the NATO defense coalition where any further attack would trigger an article 5 response.

Ukraine cannot join Nato while at war. In 2008 they were up for review to join but Germany said no. Ukraine has fought valiantly and I respect them but I say no to US intervention with troops as this is not our fight. I also question why we protect such countries as Germany who are not a good Allie. If Ukraine achieves a peace deal then perhaps they can join. It is more likely that Putin dies first and then they can get a peace deal that allows them to join NATO.

Even if Putin dies, this is no guarantee that he will be replaced by a better man. Medvedev, for example, is even harsher in his threats and in the propaganda he promotes.
If Ukraine falls, Eastern Europe will fall and NATO will be fractured with a large part of its allies.
Among these is a great risk with the USA during Trump's term.
If this were to happen, the remaining countries would no longer have solid security guarantees, so the alliance would become useless.
This is Putin's plan, to destroy the NATO alliance from within through propaganda, fear, paranoia.
I believe that Ukraine should be accepted into NATO as soon as possible, because the possibility of returning Ukraine to nuclear power is being discussed (an idea I am against)

Putin’s replacement would be more open to bribes to leave. That would only be possible in the beginning, before the new Russian president gets to engaged as they couldn’t then break away without losing face. NATO countries won’t be invaded by Russia. That would be suicide for them. Russia can’t beat Ukraine which is only 40 million people and limited military. Russia should be more worried that Poland just doesn’t jump in and kick their ass.

If I recall correctly, Ukraine gave up their nukes for a promise of peace. If they get it back, so be it. They would have to get rid of them again to join NATO though I would think.

That is why it creates destabilization with extremists in many countries such as the Netherlands, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, France, Germany, etc.
