Looks like a combination of things:
1. Some amount of unexplained flying lights that have been popping up around this time of year for the past three years near a local military base. This year appears to be more and over a wider area. At least some appear to be coming from the ocean and returning afterwards.
2. Drones being sent up by the government/military and ufo enthusiasts to try to get info on the above.
3. Public hysteria and lack of explanation leading to people overreporting normal aircraft, drones etc.


What the original ones are is more ambiguous, most likely answer is a military project but the reaction so far is bizarre. I’m more inclined to think they have no real solid leads and don’t want people to panic by admitting it…. Which is to say I’m not sure either but mysterious glowing orbs/patterns of lights in the sky have been recorded since antiquity and enough credible videos have come up without anyone being harmed so I’m also not panicking. My main fear right now is people panicking and shooting in the sky where the bullets could fall and injure people.

to be honest: probably cause it's some mundane shit about people just flying their private drones, which the government has no say in, cause it's the peoples right to do so.

If I buy a drone and fly it around my house I am pretty sure that the government can't explain that either. The government does not have all the answers and drones are a normal thing to see these days.

The drones are probably some CIA project that the CIA doesn't want anybody to know about and that they messed up to the point where people are seeing them anyway. So their solution to the problem is to just not say anything about them.
