Was Jimmy Carters decision to boycott the Moscow Olympics a smart move or a dick move?

If it hurt Russia, it's good. They've been a terrorist mafia state for decades now and before that the Soviet Union under Stalin was as bad as Nazi rule. it's about time they got taught the lesson Ukraine is giving them. Putin is just another greedy petty tyrant with the same dreams and goals as Hitler using the same tactics and then some. Russia is going to have an economic collapse soon at this point they could win the war today and conquer all of Ukraine and their population and economy would still be beyond saving. No matter what happens Russia is a 3rd world Chinese puppet state at best. Ukraine will be free and maybe someday it will even get Crimea back and be whole again. Slava Ukraine, Heroyam Slava!

Carter got several countries to boycott the 1980 Moscow Olympics as a protest against the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan. In hindsight, it didn't accomplish much. Russian troops stayed in Afghanistan for another 15 years, ultimately leafing to the US's failures there. It did have the negative effect of Soviet bloc countries boycotting the Los Angekes games 4 years later, a revenge protest.

he meant well but it was a poor move because an athlete can only compete once in a lifetime if your 28 the next time you'll be 32 and you may be too old to compete

List me unaccomplished an incredible amount after he left the presidency and he was possibly the only decent human being to ever become president of the United States. He also died today.

I felt bad for the athletes. Training for year to get a shot at the Olympics and then have it all taken away because of politics really sucked. Especially considering tht the Olympics was a much bigger deal back then than it is today.

Politics has no place in sports. It was unfair to all those who trained for their one shot at going to the Olympics. It accomplished nothing
