Jimmy Carter passed away today at 100. He’s the longest living president. https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/jimmy-carter-death-news-12-29-24/index.html

In a nutshell I viewed him as an extremely intelligent individual but unfortunately an ineffective leader.

He was also the last introverted president we ever had. That doesn’t make him “weak” however being president isn’t the ideal position for someone like disposition.

Anyway RIP Jimmy Carter. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I don’t like calling Jimmy Carter “weak”. I think he was a good man who truly loved his country. In fact he accomplished more post presidency then he accomplished in office. But being president requires a unique strength that most people don’t have. Being a likeable person definitely isn’t enough for that job.

And I think OP's verdict, along with Barry Goldwater's above, is the correct one.

Someone else called him not a good president, but perhaps the best Ex-President, in terms of charitable work.

And he lived long enough to see a President Biden, who was even worse than Carter in terms of what Carter was faulted for, namely economic stagflation and an ineffectual foreign policy.

And even Carter's foreign policy wasn't completely disastrous. He did broker a peace deal between Egypt and Israel that has lasted 46 years and counting so far.

I agree with everything you said above. I respected Carter as a person (I personally have volunteered for Habitat for Humanity which Carter founded by the way).

Again I think Carter was a highly intelligent and good hearted man. And he’s not half as incompetent as Joe Biden is. But still he wasn’t a very effective leader even though compared to Joe Biden he looks like Augustus Caesar. But compared to Reagan, George HW and Trump he wasn’t up to snuff. Especially when it came projecting strength on the world stage. And giving up the Panama Canal was a completely asinine mistake that is haunting us right now (and China is meddling with it now).

He did construction work with his own hands almost right up until his death. I don't envision a lot of these old fat politicians still living, current or retired, doing anything close to that. Trump and Elon aren't gonna be putting up trusses in their old age. In fact, a lot of people in their 20's and 30's these days are too fat and out of shape to do that. For that Carter has my respect. Only Clint Eastwood would probably equal that kind of energy for someone that age. I didn't agree necessarily with Carter's policies, but he was a fucking man, which is scarce these days.

I volunteered for Habitat for Humanity before. It’s was an awesome experience. Excellent idea.

Anyway the most well intentioned intelligent person in the world could ultimately be a horrible president. Although I have a ton more respect for Carter as a person then I will ever have for Biden, Obama, Clinton, etc he still really screwed up our economy, the Iran contra affair and gave away the Panama Canal (which was beyond asinine). Americans lost their lives building that thing and now it’s coming back to haunt us given the outrageous fees they are charging American transport through the canal.

But even Carter’s failures I still respect him as a well intentioned intelligent man vs. the Clinton’s, Biden’s and Obama’s who really only wanted power, money and to push their radical agendas.
