Do you miss the paper boys as I call them?

They were in business from the early 1800s til the 1920s or 30s. I know no one on here, including myself, ever got to see one on the street corner shouting out the headlines, but it’s fun to imagine. I get to see a depiction of them in one of my video games. I’m not a sick person who’s into kids. I only like adults. I just think the idea of paper boys is cute.

When I was in grammar school in the 1960s, I helped a friend with his paper route one year. We had to get up really early, ride our bikes to a place where stacks of newspapers were delivered. We folded the papers, put rubber bands on them and stuffed them into canvas saddle bags that sat on our bikes.

Then we rode for miles, throwing the papers onto people's porches. They had to go on the porch. If we missed, we had to stop and put the paper on the porch, so we learned to get really good at throwing those papers from our bikes as we rode by.

When we were done, we would stop by a local doughnut shop for a doughnut and hot coco when the sun was starting to come up.

That’s an incredible story, I can almost see it. It’s like a window into back then. Would you say life was better then?

I would definitely say life was better back then. No question.

My small town newspaper had paperboys (and girls) up into at least the '80's. They just stood outside the paper's office at the curb and cars would pull over and buy.

These days, that newspaper is getting so thin I don't know how much longer they'll be around.

When I was in high school I used to sell newspapers in the town square. I would sell 100 papers before school. I istly sold them to guys going to work. Most were the same customers every day. I never used to shout, I just stood there with my pile of papwers

It was the 80s. Newspapers were still big and there were plenty of guys that would stop on their way to work to pick one up.

Oh, never knew that.

Any newspapers I did not sell I could get a refund for them. I had one customer that used to save the papers for the whole week and give them back to me on Friday so I could get a refund for them.

My grand pappy was around at the end pf the paper boy period in NYC. New York Post in 2 editions. That's when it was more news than ads and the only source except useless TV newscasts.

What I remember of them as a kid was they rarely delivered on time in the 80s and 90s lol.
