Agriculture uses 80% of Californias water and only produces 2% of the GDP of California.

The Resnick couple took over a waterbank that was built with taxpayer money and now they sell water back to the state. And they use the Water for pistachios and pomegranate juice. This company Wonderful belongs to them.

They even went as far as lobbying for increased tensions with Iran to keep their pistachios out of the U. S.

There used to be a law that said in a drought cities would get the water first and agriculture would have to wait. But with a little bit of influence that law was abolished. Now the government has to pay for water that should belong to the public already.

Decades ago I started to notice that an entire aisle in the supermarket was used to sell bottled water. For a while I invested in a fund that was invested in companies that sold water and other water related industries. The fund did very well.

This is no surprise. Pretty soon drinking water will be a valuable commodity.

Just because you can invest in the companies that are fucking everybody over doesn't really make it much better. Yeah you might get some personal gain out of it but now you're just part of the problem and the downsides could still outweigh the money you made. That's how I see it anyway.

Over 10 years later and not a single reservoir has been completed yet.

... Are you surprised? Infrastructure takes time and the vote in 2014 was only to make funding available. They did not actually start construction back then. This is entirely normal. Also the money allocated was not actually that much. Large water reservoirs costs in the billion dollar range and they only allocated 2.7 some billion for like 1 new one and expanding two others plus some smaller projects.

Pumping sea water is not going to really work. Its too corrosive to establish the infrastructure. You would have to purify it first which is one of the most energy intensive (and therefore unprofitable) things you can do.

I was just talking about this with another guy. The comedian George Lopez, talked about how his farmer family couldn't water their crops, because the environmentalists were worried about the smelt. And another thing people don't know, is that California home owners aren't allowed to clean up and dispose of the brush around their houses. This dead brush is just waiting for a flame. I think this is about the lizards or something. These people voted blue, and now their houses are gone.

Many moons ago, a country had a horrible disaster. (I think it was Indonesia)
They hated Americans, so they wouldn't let us on their soil to help. So the US parked three navy ships off their shore, and they just used the desalination process to make fresh water from the sea for the country. (even though they hated us, they liked the water)

I don't know how that would work for fires, and maybe it wouldn't. But your idea of burning out some pumps sounds about right. But we need to protect the smelt!

@Dongie I am defending him because this is pure brain-rot. Like seriously, the North Californian water system had record amounts of water. It was not a problem of not having enough water to supply the water hydrants. The issue was the pressure which was provided by water tanks. The water pumps simply could not move water fast enough to fill the water tanks at higher elevation.

And before you open your mouth again, the reason we have water tanks is because water pumps can't keep up with peek demands.

So yeah.. This whole conversation is fucking stupid even if you ignore the part where they want to build a whole new network of pipes just for sea water that is going to have to be replaced all the time.
