I don't know the circumstances so I can only comment broadly but I think some comments are worth making.

The international agreements are that genuine refugees apply for sanctuary in the country of first resort i. e. the first safe country. Transiting through a safe country to a more preferred country does not make them a refugee in the preferred country.

I'd have doubts that criminality in the preferred country changes that position.

Being an economic refugee doesn't make a person a refugee. The refugees we get for example are quite rich because they have paid for part of a ship that will make just one last voyage before being destroyed. One of our refugees slapped in her application then demanded a boob enhancement. No such thing as a beauty refugee.

Sexuality refugees are genuine refugees if their home country would punish them for being LBQTG+ but they are expected to prove that by forming associations.

Quite a lot of the time refugees are not from were they are claiming to be from. Some do tailgate onto a more genuine refugee stream.

I'm against ersatz refugees because the poor sods who are genuinely refugees are sitting in refugee camps waiting patiently for their number to come up. I think they deserve better and to not be queue jumped.

Even if that were so, most of the people flooding the southern border were not originally from Mexico. They were from countries very far away.
