Guys, what do we think of Trumps proposed tariff plan on Mexico and Canada possibly this weekend?

As a Canadian it doesn't really bother me. It will make domestic cars more expensive because parts go back and forth over the border multiple times during production. Canada is planning on retaliating with an export tariff on oil and we export a lot. It's a silly little pissing contest that's just going to make everything more expensive. We don't manufacture nearly much as we used to so it's mostly lumber, oil and gas, cars and metals so that's going to be affected and Americans still need those. It's a cash grab for government without raising taxes.

tariffs are gonna drive prices up. tariffs aren't payed be the exporters. they need to stay economically viable. tariffs are always paid by the importers. and if there's not even a local alternative, then tariffs will fuck up national economy. not improve it. i say tariffs can make sense if you make sure america can supply itself with 100% of what it needs. then it can make sense.

oh no. so totally unfair. It's only fair that these other countries charge tariffs to the US, or even just flat out don't allow US to import things to their countries. No fair having the USA do the same thing to those countries. lmao

Mostly, it's because we've been bailing out Canada for a long time because Trudeau can't seem to run the country. As for Mexico, they're allowing China to build their cars in Mexico and sell them here. From what I understand, the tariffs are to keep them from selling here because we're trying to have cars made here by our own people.

Mean while the life long politicians didn’t object to any of it. Now they want to be someone and take credit for bringing back the businesses that they allowed to leave.
