It kind of is though. It is sort of what Americans want America to be. For example, many Republicans wants "states rights" and states to be far more autonomous as well as have its own unique culture and rules. Kind of like its own small country.. Well.. *gestures generally at the cultural and legal clusterfuck that is Europe*.. That is sort of exactly what Europe is.

An extension of this is that you can pretty much find whatever flavor of nation that you want. Want lax gun control? Switzerland. Want a rich culture that speaks English? Great Britain. Want a good food culture? Honestly, take your pick. There is something for everyone in Europe more or less. Even if you dont like one part, there is another that probably suits your taste.

Because they don't actually see how Europe works in practice. They hear about the social policies in place and they don't make the connection between the policies and what actually takes to support those policies. And they don't realize that there's a reason Europe required ruthless colonization to make their economic machine run. America's modern commercial relationship with Europe is just another, mildly more empathetic iteration of that system. Americans only see America's side of that deal.

Let's be totally real, Europe's social policies are bankrupting it. And if they actually had to finance their own defense, they'd be even worse off.

I think the ancient cities and beautiful architecture in some of the 1,000 year old cities and the languages/scenery is a draw.

As someone who has studied German, going to Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland is a big attraction.

I guess because of what they see/hear on TV, and the whole concept of, "the grass being greener on the other side"

Also, they probably form an opinion on it based on what they experience while on holiday. But they don't realize that going somewhere for vacation is different than actually living there

It's the belief that what we see is what Europe really is like. It's not. It's a developed collection of nations that aren't vastly different than the U. S. It's like if you only go to the national landmarks of the U. S., it'll look pretty amazing. You don't see everything else though. Everything else is what makes a country what it is.

My great grandma was from there and she said all the people were really nice but everyone was poor and it was a bad place to live cuz it was hard to have food.
