Potentially possible if fuel prices are reduced. In Australia, at the supermarket, it seems to cost $4 a kilogram (~ 2 lb) to put stuff on the shelf. I have never managed to establish to my satisfaction what the transport cost contribution is.

Fuel costs are pervasive though. Inputs to the farm like fertilizer, activities such as plowing/reaping/harvesting are affected. Shipping to distribution hubs, distribution super markets is going to be a component of the shelf price.

Our excise duties on fuel are much higher than yours. At the beginning of Putin's war our gov't had an easy lever to reduce fuel costs. Best I can find is it made a $20 a week difference. A far greater saving on cost of driving - about $30 with a 11% decrease in fuel cost.

A lot of differences between our countries and a helpful but minor improvement resulted.

So taxes is how people on a day to day see the impact. Sales tax, sins tax, property tax, income taxes. So they see the prices on the advertisement then the added tax after word.

People don't understand taxes are percentage base or bracket base. It feels like a last stab in the back then a calculated additive to the original price who have the final say in prices.
