I think this may be a good idea if you want to motivate people to support long term spending cuts. It needs to be justified as rebates of abused spending.
Otherwise anyone looking for financial responsibility is competing with the other side offering money for their vote instead.
Yes, I agree. My understanding is that the plan involves using the spending cuts achieved in part to reduce the debt (to help future taxpayers) and in part to return to the taxpayers now to help current taxpayers. No guarantees of anything since the Democrats are fighting so hard to protect the corruption, but I think they may finally have met their match.
I get what he is trying to do but even though it would be cool to get a 5K check I wand them to work on the debt.
Yes, he knows that and that's what they are trying to do. The idea is to let taxpayers know that they FINALLY have someone looking out for THEM.
@exitseven
Do you really think a case can be made for reducing the size of goverment before it crushes us when only the other side get's to buy votes?
At least in the rebate argument it is legally justify.
That money was in fact stolen by congress who was never authorized to tax it in the first place for such proposes.
Given it is a 1 time rebate it doesn't even begin to cover the amount stolen or that would be stolen were politicians not motivated and rewarded for enforcing the constitution.

I'm MAGA but don't support a DOGE DIVIDEND. Use the money to make interest payments on the National Debt.
Don't worry they're not going to do this. It's a signal not a promise.
@Dargil
We have been failing to keep the federal goverment financially responsible for nearly 200 years now.
The problem in any 'democracy' is the politicians wanting to expand their power get to buy votes with such power doing so.
So maintaining any kind of limited goverment much-less a constitutional system is an uphill battle against political bribery of public money.
The idea of giving rebates from politicians that recovered such Stolen money (unconstitutionally spent money is stolen) recovered by actually enforcing the constitution allows the other-side to at least in some small short term way begin to compete.
Making the political case to uphold the constitution.
The real corruption started after the income tax was enacted in 1913. It was a license to steal from the citizens.
TBH I’d prefer it went to pay off the debt. Let’s get our shit in order first, then just cut everyone’s taxes to 5%
That's exactly the track they are planning. This is just a message to let the people who pay all the bills know that there's finally somebody looking out for them in the government instead of a bunch of thieves stealing their money.
We shall see.
Definitely not an easy task after more than a hundred years of entrenched and unaddressed corruption in government.
In nearly 100 years our federal goverment basically never significantly cuts spending because every dollar they spend is actually buying a vote.
If you ever want them to make the goverment efferent, you have to mitigate the money going to do the opposite with a 1 time rebate of the money previously stolen by congress to buy said vote.
Otherwise we will keep getting what we got. Congress and most presidents will never seriously try to cut spending or stick to the constitution. @seeyounexttuesday
I think a Scotsman named Alexander Tytler said it best 200 years ago:
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy".
Trump said something like 20% back to tax payers. 20% to pay down deficit. Sounds good to me.
This would be inflationary... Pay down the national debt...
The federal goverment hasn't been motivated to pay down the dept in the last 100 years for a very simple reason. Even money wasted in fraud as long as it is spent domesicly is buying votes.
Money recovered or not spent doesn't buy any vote even thou it saves money for everyone.
There has to be short term benefit to voters for them to ever reward politicians for any kind of limitation on goverment spending.
Keep telling yourself otherwise but you've tried it that way and failed 100+ years going now. Democracy fail because its electorate are short term thinkers and selfish.
No, it would not be inflationary.
Inflation is always caused by the government printing more money to pay for MORE government spending. This money would not be from printing more money, it's from SAVINGS realized by the government spending LESS money.
That's not inflationary.

When people earn money, whether from their jobs, their investments or getting back what was stolen from them in taxes, it is DISinflationary, not inflationary because they save some of that money which means it is not increasing current demand.
