Before a few decades ago, the government didn't baby-sit people after disasters. You used to need your own savings and insurance to rely on, and if that wasn't' enough you just became homeless. Back when Hurricane Audrey hit Louisiana, (now known to have only been Category 3,) it did so much damage that even people in SE Louisiana nearly 200 miles away from landfall were nevertheless out of power for MONTHS. States didn't share resources to help recovery efforts and people who had no insurance or savings who had damaged or destroyed homes were just SHIT OUT OF LUCK.

Maybe we should go back to that, because the government baby-sitting everyone is not the role of government. The role of government is supposed to be enforcing moral laws, such as "don't murder" and "don't rape". The role of government is not supposed to be babysitting everyone who has misfortune or asks for a hand-out.

If the federal government was actually worth anything in disaster relief, that would be concerning. It's a good thing that's almost entirely on state and local responders though.

Trump has already been the North Carolina and California to look at all the damage from the disasters. He has stopped FEMA from spending money shuttling illegal aliens around the country.
